The movie gave him a lot of exposure and good will as a character which led to the rabbit hole of his current existence being pushed so incredibly hard. Never mind that Static is awesome and everyone loves Blade, Luke Cage is fairly well liked, Martian Manhunter is liked, whats-his-face the Green Lantern black guy has come into his own as a character, or that T'chala has basically been saved as a character because of Boseman. You're just a racist if you dislike Miles specifically despite him being a bad character.
I absolute hate that he calls himself Spider-Man instead of having his own unique name. It completely muddies the conversation whenever both Peter and Miles are around. I also hate how everything has to revolve around him being black or Puerto Rican instead of just a normal kid dealing with life so he has to be into mixing music, he has to be into rap, he has to be into shoes, he has to be into the black-specific haircuts, etc. It feels patronizing most of the time. Someone like Virgil used the thug culture as a backdrop to why he got his powers and him trying to assimilate into a gang before realizing what an awful life that is, but the show played him mostly like a nerdy kid instead of some underprivileged black youth whose only personality is his hair, shoes, skin color, or that he likes hip hop.
It also sucks absolute ass that whenever Miles is on screen Peter has to play second fiddle and Miles isn't allowed to really make mistakes or fail in any serious way. Spidey 2 at least gave him his own interesting story that deal with his grief and willingness to potentially kill Martin Li, and that he will never forgive Li despite his contrition and redemption, but then undercooks Peter's side of the story.
Into the Spiderverse was infuriating because they paint Miles willing to kill infinite amounts of people a good thing to try to save his dad because it's Miles completely ignoring the infinite Spideys who have proof it will cause issues.
