I think 2r, its the perfect length for an re game. 4 is good but it drags on just a bit too long, make me less likely to replay as opposed to 2 and 3r. 3r is especially good for this. You can basically sit down and beat it in one sitting, which feels good. I don’t want every game to be that short but sometimes its nice.

RE4 and RE4 Remake are tied for the best. Remake has better gameplay with a bit worse pacing, RE4 has great pacing and peak atmosphere and cutscenes, but it's really easy to cheese ganados.

I play 4r and 2r or 3r for different reasons.
2r and 3r feel really good to sit down and speedrun in short bursts like you said, there arent that many collectibles, the games arent that long, feels more like "action-survival" with a bit of horror thrown in for flavour.

4r to me is like a proper full feature length game, so many more challenges and extras and things to do and find, I prefer to take my time and enjoy it properly

I even feel the difference in the combat, 4r feels a lot more fun to play combat wise, like a true action game.
2r feels more like a horror surivval where your weapons are purely there to make space for you to progress to the next room without dying, which is fun in its own way but not as fun as 4r

I love original Resident evil 2 and 3. 3 is the kind of action game I enjoy more than 4. I like exploring the city and it makes me wish they gave us even more ps1 resident evil games.

I had to uninstall it and refund it. Something about it made me feel sick. Leon moved like a boat, I hated it.

I think the only RE game you can really go wrong with is 6 if you're not in it for the Mercenaries, and Village as a follow-up because it really sucks to replay. Even 3R is mostly fine as an action romp on its own merits even if it's a shit adaptation of the original.

Controlling Ashley in the OG is way better though. Even her solo segment is drawn out in the remake. Unless you're talking about her design, then yeah sure she's hotter in the remake but I prefer her dorky yet cute look in the OG.

The upgrades and treasure system are much better in my opinion, rather than having arbitrary upgrade restrictions based on chapter you can vary each playthrough more and in the original there was absolutely no thought in combining treasures other than if you happened to miss one

The gameplay is better. That's it. No, being able to guaranteed stagger every enemy with a tiny pistol or TMP tap isn't a good thing. 4R has better gunplay, better upgrade balancing, and a better treasure system. It's also got a lot of encounters that are better laid out, and the inclusion of special interactions you can do if you know what's coming in certain fight arenas is fucking phenomenal for replays. 4 is still a great game that plays great, but 4R just plays better. There's also smaller stuff like Luis's backstory being better, and the Salazar bossfight being better.
