Bouguereau is one of if not the most impressive painter in history on a technical level but the actual substance of his work was average at best. It's not like he was Michelangelo or Thomas Cole. Goya and Monet, for example, offer far more to appreciate despite their shortcomings.

More like it's about class warfare with how the game deceptively gets the player invested in a family of elites that use the "peasant" Lumerians as tools/playthings/coping mechanisms and are seen as expendable over the family. If there's anything "political" about the game it's this.

With all the discussions about which family member is in the right, which family member is evil, which family member is this or that. It shows that the way to story was developed worked in getting the player invested in the family to the point that not even the player base has much concern for the Lumerians.

Story was pretty good and making me not invested in any of them. Don't misunderstand, I liked it, but I came out of it thinking none of them were right. They were all broken and pityable. For me it was a family trashing their dead sons room and themselves because they didn't know how to cope. The painted people are an afterthought because they all died anyway.

Well I'd say the ultimate point would that if this wasn't some magical canvas land and a group of underclass people were exterminated simply because an elite, wealthy, influential and powerful family was throwing a temper tantrum this perspective would be far more obvious. It's the canvas world that excuses away the Lumerians being exterminated and removes any stakes they have in the grand scheme.

Verso who originally painted them is said to have not visited the canvas in his later years, he just let them live. I don't think there is an excuse to killing them but it happened anyway and my personal opinion is that if you accept that they were real you also have to accept that they can't be brought back.
