SL and PS didn't elaborate on the story at all, it created its own continuity. The locked up box from fnaf 4 has been retconned and means nothing now and the missing lore of fnaf 4 was pieced together through the books. Scott Cawthon is a terrible story teller.

FNAF series was unironically Scott's best work considering he never decided to follow up on Desolate Hope, which is sad. You can see the influence in FNAF World's active battle system, he's still got it when it comes to making good gameplay. Turns out that attacking an AI designed to learn by mimicking people behavior with a tube was a very BAD IDEA. The mimic was peaceful before that attack but then he started to imitate that violent behavior.
