It's up for the actual modders to spread out and diversify where they upload. If they only choose Nexus then they kill modding themselves. So modders need to stop doomposting and break their old habbits. Nexus is preferred because of the mod manager i suppose.

Bethesda's own platform is getting more traffic (even just on PC) than Nexus for everything but Skyrim, which is just momentum and history at this point

The short version is that the internet became more and more centralized out of convenience. You can look at modding, where dozens of sites, most specific to one game or series, gave way to a one-stop-shop which was initially very reasonable and hands off. This in turn means fewer and fewer moderation positions need to be captured in order to influence what an entire hobby or fandom is able to discuss and how online. Jannying is something that self selected for troons - you have to be online a lot, you have to be low self esteem, you can't have anything else to do - and so over time you have more and more trooned out subhumans controlling a smaller and smaller number of moderator positions which influence a larger and larger group of people. Especially for nerdy hobbies where the primary meeting place would be online, this is devastating. It isn't that nerds have trooned, most haven't, it's just that they live in occupied space. The internet poses this really weird scenario where the least of us have the most say on conversation.
