It was far from bad, and is quite a solid shooter. But the multiplayer was tacked on and filled with hackers, and as a Max Payne game it really doesn't live up to the prior titles, could've really lived with a bit less scrutiny if it wasn't called what it was.

It was better in every single way in terms of level design, gameplay, attention to detail, but 1 and 2 fags just cried that it didn't have reddit story and writing

Afaik much of the hate came from console players because it was almost unplayable without a mouse since the game kinda demanded to quickly click 18 heads every bullettime and the autoaim for controller was awful.

no the fuck it wasn't. I beat the game on both Hardcore and NYMH on PS3, the difficulty is overrated, it plays great on consoles, especially since it's not meant to be played like a traditional FPS.

The only FPS that don't play well on console are fast-paced arena FPS. Anything with cover shooting, auto-aim, assist, ADS, or slow-mo plays fine on console.

But this and it being tropical freeze rather than noir winter was the main thing people complained about.

This series could never quite get it right.

>MP1: A good idea with weak execution. The battles were always over too quickly, the lack of ragdoll physics meant the bullet time was underwhelming, and the blood-trail nightmare level was so dire it deterred me from playing again. The atmosphere was effective, though, and was the game's main strength
>MP2: Better in many ways, we had physics this time, no dream sequence shit, but now the game was too easy and the problem of combat being too sparse and too fleeting was still present. The atmosphere continued to work well.
>MP3: Gameplay was improved, flashy action movie setpieces made more profitable use of the bullet time, and there was no longer that sense of a small amount of content being stingily parcelled out: combat was now big, abundant and constant. But you were in sunny Brazeel and the atmosphere was completely different, with an opener that took you through a glamourous penthouse and then a bouncing neon-stripped nightclub: it was John Wick before that film existed. And of course the cutscenes, the interminable, unskippable fucking cutscenes.

>unskippable cutscenes are the best! I thought I'd got all the enjoyment I could out of this cutscene the first three times, but now that I'm seeing it a fourth time, I'm enjoying it more than ever! Aw no what's this, a gameplay segment? So fucking tiresome. I hope it won't delay me too long before the next unskippable scene, because those are the real substance of any Rockstar game.

It should have kept the New York City setting the entire game.

But it was only in there, since Rockstar wanted to have a graveyard shootout, since it's their tradition. It started in San Andreas, happened again in GTA IV, happened in this game, happened again in GTA V, and next Red Dead Redemption 2.

And it will happen again in GTA VI, most likely in the game's parody of Disney World, for its parody of the Haunted Mansion ride.

I love the series and the third game is the weakest. I really think it should've went in chronological order with the game starting in the bar before meeting Pasos, the flashback missions were alright but when you know it's a flashback mission it doesn't really matter. Here's hoping the remakes breathe life into the multiplayer scene.

Ok, but you / that person didn't mention gameplay. They just said "It's my favorite one". MP3 is a terrible Max Payne game, but an ok game by itself. It has some nice gameplay, but that's all it's got going for it. There's more to games than just gameplay, especially since it's the 3rd in a series.

I liked the gameplay more than MP2's. The setting also made for a different kind of noir story. It's very Rockstar, though. The first game is still the best.

Should've went like this, I genuinely think the game would be better.
>Anyone Can Buy Me a Drink/Bar
>Ain't No Reprievement/Graveyard
>Sun Tan Oil, Stale Margaritas and Greed/Panama Canal
>Something Rotten in the Air
>Nothing But the Second Best
>Just Another Day at the Office
>Alive If Not Exactly Well
>A Dame, A Dork, and A Drunk
>Hangover From Mother Nature
>Halfway Down the World

Max Payne 1 and 2 lover recently converted to loving MP3. I'm trying to be a reformed Max Payne 3 hater (I literally spent years talking shit about a game I never played), buuuuuuut

>No Max don't do iiiiit don't get revenge on this guy!
>Actually he dies in jail like Epstein lol so you can have your cake and eat it too!

Also the whole of Chapter 11 which seems to only exist to make Max look like a giant retard

>Gawrsh guys where are you going :D???

Last Man Standing is genuinely a dog shit mechanic so I'm glad Old School difficulty is a thing. (Though it really does suck that you have to unlock it first)

But other than those three things, I think it's pretty good. It also let me live out the fantasies of a coop Max Payne game, even if the games coop mode is only two maps, I still got pretty good use out of them.

The Tears song went great with the action but why wasn't it put somewhere more meaningful like the graveyard? Maybe a little obvious but the air terminal sequence it plays in isn't even the end of the game which would make me understand why it's there, though I guess it's close enough to the end of the game that it kind of works as the almost penultimate action scene

I play it every winter in New England. The two New York levels were the best in 3, and I wish the entire game was just Max trying to escape New Jersey/New York after killing DeMarco's kid. Hell, the plot was there. The comics explain that the city is a complete shithole, corrupt cops on DeMarco's dime. The family basically running the place. They had everything laid out for a story that mirrors the first game to bookend it.

I can only hope that one day Remedy will just go ahead and make an Alex Casey 3 game, and use their ending that they teased in Alan Wake. But with James' McCaffery's death, it will probably never happen now.

Do people still play MP3 online? I played it on PS3 shortly after it released with a close friend of mine who is also an MP fan and we had a fucking blast. I bought it on Steam a little while later but never got around to actually playing it.
