it's pretty good, but I recommend to play the original before
(not just to have two good experiences but the remake heavily reference some elements only players of the original can recognize)

the original's dialogue was a clumsy attempt to be lynchian, the new one is just mumblecore. even though the original voice acting is rough the new one is sleep inducing boring. and the absurdly long pauses between sentences and words they use in the remake is irritating as hell. did they think that was more realistic or dramatic or something?

Another glaring flaw with the remake that's almost enough to ruin the game for me is the stupid tutorial UI shit. Guy goes on a 5 minute long monologue about his dead wife and how he's looking for her in hell town followed by "PRESS X TO USE ESTUS FLASK".

Anon the remake literally opens with an option for customizing the UI, they even made a way for the game to be played with zero UI elements (James will have specific animation depending on his health, and will look at items he can pick)

It was perhaps a little too long but I understand why they did so, these days people would not accept a game as long as the original.
I think they will make the sh1 remake a little shorter though, they must have learned plenty from the experience with 2, it's confirmed the same director I believe

It's ridiculous that they included them at all let alone made it the default setting. Looks like absolute shit, the very last game that needs a fingerless glove meter is silent hill.

also the old VA for mary mogs the absolute fuck out of the new one. the old one felt real and raw as fuck, the new one is trying to be mumblecore so hard that it just becomes laughable. The second half of the game in general is way worse in the remake.

One of the best moments in the game is after the climax in the hotel where you find the voice recorder and you get the dialogue bewteen james and the doctor with the hospital bed. Absolutely brutal in how real it is. Of course in the remake they make it into a fucking cringe ass demon voice audio log like it's some jumpscare slop horror movie.

it's not a jumpscare at all, the voice is pretty calm...
Though I do agree I prefer Mary's old VA, I did like the remake VA too though, and some characters I believe have better or equal voices to the original.
Ultimately I really like both the original and remake, they are different experience even if based on the same bases, there's the movie coming out later this year, so that's a third one to add

why the fuck is this not the default setting. even if you wanted UI cancer why would you not have this enabled at the same time?

Probably for the common players out there
though the game ask you to change things at the start, so it's not like, "hidden"

I didn't mean that was a jumpscare, I meant that the cartoon gravelly demon voice they used instead of the stark real life conversation that's in the original is so stupid and sounds so bad that it could have come from one of those dogshit movies.

Hearing how your wife is dying of a debilitating terminal illness isn't emotionally impactful enough I guess, gotta change it so pazuzu is the one speaking instead of the doctor.

The voice talking is said to be the doctor, but if you look at the credit, it's actually the voice actor of James talking.
The remake deliberately have a few scenes which almost assume you played the original, in fact you can even find the original voice recorder in the remake, but it's broken.

Regardless of what their intention was, they removed one of the most memorable moments in the game and replaced it with slop. A pretty common theme for the entire remake. They butchered eddie's character and he even looks worse visually in the remake, they made him an inhuman blob monster caricature instead of a fat kid.

Did say? I thought he was pretty good, really good voice actor too
I guess everyone have their view on it, the original game has such a following, it was impossible for a remake to be loved by everyone

In a way, they might be more lucky with the original game remake, which outside of a few scenes needing to be mostly the same, might benefit more from more freedom

Well no that is the default, thatโ€™s just how the game plays regardless of whether you choose to keep the UI or not. I was honestly really pleasantly surprised by how they did it. Of course no UI as the default would be the best, but 99% of people playing the remake who never tried the original were going to be Gen Z casuals, for whom that sort of shit is just expected now. The fact that they tell you this and give you the option to turn it all off right when you start the game totally makes up for it imo

They could have just made a game about the same length and charged less for it, instead of adding 20-30 hours of bullshit to a game that could originally be beaten in 7.

Or, better yet, they could have spent the resources coming up with a new game, since the remake was entirely pointless.

a new game. Not a silent hill game. a different game entirely. Unless, of course, they don't really have anything interesting to say, or create, hence the reliance on bloated, empty experiences wearing other game's plots like Buffalo Bill wears a woman's skin.

Well Bloober kinda sucked until The Medium, and even that game was lackluster. SH2 remake was their first REAL critical success, so i'm sure SH1 remake will be fine if it's of the same quality.
Neobards is a fucking joke, they've done basically nothing but port jobs for Capcom (Onimisha, DMC, Resident Evil)
Their only original titles were Resident Evil Resistance and RE:Verse..the multiplayer tacked on modes for REmake 3 and Village. So the fact people arent extremely worried about Silent Hill f is baffling to me. Because they have made nothing but dogshit games.
NoCode on the other hand makes pretty high quality walking sim type experiences, Stories Untold and Observation are a good time. Townfall is classified officially as a spin-off so, dont expect it to be a "real" Silent Hill, probably a narrative based walking sim, but a high quality one.

Also the only real people from the OG team Silent still involved in the modern games seems to be Masahiro Ito amd Akira Yamaoka, and they just seem to be in more of support roles working with new artists and composers.
Like for SHf, Yamaoka is composing the fog world music while a new guy is composing the nightmare world music, or the other way around. I cannot remember.
