Yeah. The DS had a lot of top tier games. One of my favourite systems of all time desu.

In retrospecct, not really. The DS version was absurdly difficult. I'm thinking about the levels where you have to remove the kidney stones, and as a kid I never got past the first couple of levels after discovering the bioweapon. Now as an adult, I can't even get past the first time you unlock the "magic touch" or whatever it's called, maybe because my reflexes are not what they used to big with my big man hands, and actually mostly because the DS version is kinda broken.

The Wii version is superior, I believe the story is also better, it's more complete and everything. One of the rare instances of a good reboot.

OST is great though, it's more popular than the game at this point.

The Wii one is doink though it relies on you being able to find a setup where the fucking wiimote is reliable and isn't picking up on random reflections across the room

>the DS version
>absurdly difficult
Yes, this is why it was so good. Were you honestly expecting a game about surgery to be easy? The challenge is the fun. The main issues that I have with it are
>scoring system/ranking aren't well-developed and don't do a good enough job differentiating between highly technical play vs speedy play, and some operations practically require you to milk points just to get the S-rank which undermines having a scoring system at all (e.g. deliberately letting Savato create lacerations to milk score)
>certain GUILT are too RNG to actually be fun to fight (Paraskevi) and even though you can take measures to mitigate it, sometimes it just burrows too quickly by sheer awful luck - good ranks/scores/times against it don't feel earned by skill
>the overall difficulty is actually not high enough and the game's difficulty curve doesn't have an answer to truly skilled players
I never bothered to play the sequel but I did not like the Wii version because once you've mastered the extremely precise DS controls, there's just no going back.

It was peak and one of my most favorite game series of all time. I replayed these games on their orignal hardware, on 3DS, on PC with a drawing tablet, on my phone even. New blood on the Wii was good to play with other people too. Pure games for gamers and my to-go example when I think of actual innovative games that made full use of the hardware they were developed for.

I didn't actually finish this game past the first part. I might give it another shot sometime.

Now imagine if the game took it to the next level and was built upon actual arcade game sensibilities. Starting with the timer.
>time limit starts off at 45s for all operations
>time must be earned by performing successful actions (anti milking measure: repeated actions have diminishing returns to discourage repeatable laceration suturing and other easy/fruitless actions)
>score is awarded for remaining time which is tied directly to operation performance and not just speed alone
>healing touch causes accrued time to elapse at 3x speed, giving a real tradeoff for using it and a consequence for using it as an oh-shit button (forces the player to use it with purpose instead of as a last resort if they're going to do so)

Yeah, it's fun, but I didn't feel like playing the following games after I beat it. Felt like I got all I needed from the first one.

Go back to Dark Souls, casual.

I'm sure the series will be revived on Switch 2. It needed cutting edge hardware and a joy con mouse.

Wow, you didn’t draw the line right? Holy shit, imagine being this inept. If you guys had any idea how hard real doctors had it, having ten fucking nurses and two other doctors to remove a fucking mole, you’d never play with your reputation like this, clowns! Germs are real!!!

I couldn't finish the first game because the last few stages were fucking retarded. Fucking triangle virus.
Second game got the difficulty just right. Love the nurse in the first game shouting
>WHAT ARE YOU DOING DOCTOR

No - honestly the DS was not a good console. It had a lot of gimmicky games that have aged very poorly. Trauma Center, EBA/Ouendan, Layton etc
