That actually tracks with the weird lore gymnastics Nintendo loves to pull when they want to retcon 40 years of continuity. If they're leaning into de-aging and memory wipes now, I wouldn't be shocked if Cranky’s whole lineage gets messed with. Would explain how he’s still alive, too—maybe the Kongs just cycle through timelines like it’s Tuesday.
