My point was that as much as Nintendo has been getting better with putting more options in some of their games, in others they are still super limiting. Mario kart World basically doesnt have an options menu at all for example.
I'm thinking its because they think kids would just run into an options menu and hit random buttons and then complain their game is broken when they cant understand the character voices.

Mario Kart World doesn't have voiced dialogue so of course its not going to have a language select, the voices are the same in both languages anyway. Not sure about Odyssey but I'm pretty sure its the same deal since it didn't really have voice acted dialogue and the voices/singing are the same in both languages. Bananza actually has voiced dialogue so it may or may not have a language option.

Xenoblade 2 had downloadable Japanese voices, but it's a different SKU to the actual Japanese game. The overseas version doesn't support Japanese, traditional Chinese, or simplified Chinese text, and Japanese audio is free DLC. The final cutscene(s) also has a tiny difference. Xenoblade wasn't Nintendo, I don't know why people think Monolith is Nintendo now. Sure, they're owned by them, but it's a different team. Only third parties did region locking on Switch, DQ11 was another one. All the Nintendo titles were worldwide region only, you just had to change your system language.

A very large number of Nintendo games aren't "Nintendo", look at every single F-Zero after X, every single Star Fox after 64 (barring 64 3D, which was still co-developed with Q-Games), the majority of Mario spin-offs, Wario World, The Legendary Starfy series, even the Zelda Oracle games and The Minish Cap.

What matters is if they're PUBLISHED by Nintendo. Monolith Soft was more or less owned by Nintendo from around 2006, now they're fully owned by them.

With Xenoblade specifically, the problem with 2 was that they were following the old format of having overseas versions for games, like nearly every Nintendo game pre-Switch including Xenoblade 1, 3D, and X, at the same time most other Nintendo-published games became actually region-free. Xenoblade Definitive Edition onward (actually possibly the physical version of Torna onward) follows other Nintendo-published titles.

No, the issue with Xenoblade 2 was fears of reverse importing. Same reason DQ11 had 2 versions. The point was always to prevent customers importing the CHEAPER American version. Hence why the language DLC is a one way street, westerners can play the game with JP dialogue, but it doesn't work the other way around.
