I knew there was something wrong with game journalism the day they gave Halo 2 10/10s across the board.

I knew there was something wrong with them when they all started claiming 3D platformers were beneath their standards no matter how well-designed they were. During the early 2000s it was super fashionable for professional game journalists to voice their hatred for collect-a-thons in particular. They simply wanted more online FPS.

objectively halo 2 is still a better FPS game than most today
>good gameplay
>good story
>good enemies
>fun levels
>cool vehicles
>cool weapons that each have a purpose
>good multiplayer
>no day 1 patch
>just works

only things wrong with it is it could have used more levels because it was so kino i would have like the game to have been twice as long. Very few FPS games are as fun to replay as the first 2 and arguably 3 halo games.

halo 2 expanded on the story of halo 1 and all of it felt like like a natural progression of the story. Had all the same guys working on it as halo 1. If you didnt like the halo 2 levels you just dont like solid FPS gameplay. Maps were kino and looked good. Ai was solid. Weapon list was great every weapon was viable.

with the tech they had at the time (2004) on console and microsoft rushing it out the door its amazing it was as good as it was and idk if most or any other studios would have given us anything better. for the time it was a solid product. still holds up today. if you ignore the graphics and just play the fucking game, as an overall campaign it is probably better than the majority of FPS games today im sure. It might not be as flashy and may not have a bunch of modernized standardized genre inventions but the overall quality of the campaign is good enough it doesnt matter. just a solid game.
