Pitched as basically persona in a medieval setting, and after the success of P5 it basically sold itself.
Also game journos loved the game because it was about racism even though it only provided lip service at best.

Man, the discourse around this game last year was genuinely bizarre. Usually Atlus games have great OST and art direction at least but Metaphor doesn't even have those. The OST is forgettable and the in-game graphics look like shit. The lame social-sim stuff from Persona, the mediocre dungeon design, the uninventive job system, etc. were all so disappointing. I get journalists or Reddit loving this game but /v/ calling this GOTY when great RPGs like Romancing Saga 2 and Reverse Collapse were released last year makes me think this board is too casual for me.

This piece of shit game. I gave it 30 hours of my life, fooled by the ridiculous 94 metacritic score. Bland anime with a few minutes of the same old combat. Bland story bland characters dog shit dungeons. Most bloated overated piece of shit game I ever played, even worse than p5.

Since its from 2024 I must assume it was the tranny reviewers sticking it to trump with this games glorious and incredibly insightful conclusion that "raycism is bad mkay" that resulted in the ludicrous metacritic score.
