Banjo was the peak. Banjo (accidentally) found the right balance of giving the player options of what to do/collect. Donkey Kong 64 did not realize any of this, neither did Tooie.

We wouldn't see such great pacing in a collectathon until Breath of the Wild.

What causes snoys to pretend to like outdated, worse pre-Switch Nintendo games to try to "own" Nintendo? They do the same with trash like OoT and Melee.

In the Gamecube/Xbox/Ps2 era, when 3d platformers were """dead""", we actually got one million of them, all high quality, all fun, all forgotten.

I like Donkey Kong 64, but calling it a fantastic game is a stretch, it was the weakest platformer on the N64 and you are delusional if you think otherwise.

Odyssey perfected the Banjo formula while also merging it with the DNA of the Mario series. Now we’re getting another Banjo-style game, plus whatever Nintendo decided Donkey Kong should play likein Bonanza. The gameplay seems combat-oriented, but I’m fine with that since it’s inspired by Rare’s 2D games, where the gameplay would abruptly change depending on which animal you were riding. This time, we become the animals, which is pretty damn cool.

In short, DK64's most memorable things were its bosses and characters. If you liked its collectathon elements, you’ve always been in the minority and had terrible taste.

The same thing happened with point and click games. The best games in the genre came during and after the "death". In both cases the quality of the games wasn't the issue, the unwashed masses just decided they weren't gonna buy those kinda games anymore because it is current year and those are old news. DK got used as a scapegoat because """"too big"""" and also you have to switch characters a lot, but it's actually a great game that just came out at the wrong time.
