First off, the depiction on the right first appeared in the 15th century, the emerald allegedly being gifted to Pope Innocent VIII.
Secondly, the engraving looks unmistakenly like a naturalism painting popular during the Italian Renaissance. Pic related.
Thirdly, the documents supporting the authenticity of the emerald, like the Pontius Pilateโs letter to Tiberius Caesar, are known medieval forgeries.
Considering all the previous historical investigations, I find highly unlikely the engraving on the emerald to be dated to before Jesus' death (and resurrection).
