Yes but you don't understand. When you buy it on PC you buy it a single time.

On consoles you have to buy the original, then the port because its not backwards compatible, then the remaster because its not backwards compatible, and then the remake because its not backwards compatible.

I'm really suffering for games now. Basically all long running series end up worse with each new entry, but I don't have a backlog of games to play through anymore, and have played my favorites to death, I even played a bunch of the major MMOs to a significant extent, I straight up don't know what to do.
Yes I can keep replaying old classics but like, I've played these games for ages when I was a kid and played them even more as an adult so I do crave something new. But so few new games worth playing come out either. Keep digging for hidden gems and finding nothing.

That's the narrowminded take, retarded even. The difference comes from one being closed off with the other open to rewritting data. So the closed off disc is something finite you own, the SSD open for rewritting is merely a databox where you only own the databox itself over the games you store in there at will, and that's assuming those games aren't the licenses only.

Its like if every single tractor controlled completely differently and worked off completely different, incompatible mechanisms, people would gravitate towards the first one they used and only ones most similar to it. To keep using the tractor analogy I guess it would also be like if you needed a different tractor for every single type of work instead of being able to swap tools on the tractor you have, people would obviously have resistance to that even if they could get the other ones for free because its just less convenient to have to store and maintain that many different things instead of just one.

Actually no I don't. I don't compulsively Buy every game on sale like the addicts on here do. I buy games that I know I will play til I'm bored.

I don't understand anyone who has a backlog of more than 5 games. If you aren't going to play it when you buy it, then don't buy it at all. I'm tired of the backlog meme. It's so fucking retarded

You don't understand what a backlog is. You don't have to have bought a game for it to be in your backlog.

A Backlog has always been games you owned that you haven't played, but ok if we're using your definition it makes no sense to have a backlog if you own a PC. You can own virtually ever game you want.

If you say you want to play a game for a full year and you still never get around to it....why even bother saying it's in your backlog. It's ok to say you have no interest in it.

No. The term backlog is older than video games and can even extend to things that cannot be owned or would be "owned" in a less permanent way. You can have also have a backlog of movies, shows or books. It's a bucket list. Things go into your backlog if you have any desire to do, see or play them. If a friend gives you a video game you don't want, does that go into your backlog? No. It's the desire. Not ownership.

There's no way to quantify a backlog if it's based intangible "desire".
How many games do you have in your backlog, how can you determine if you actually desire it if you haven't made the effort to attain it in any capacity within a year of desiring it.

Some people keep an actual list if they want to quote a number, or they actually go off ownership like you'd expect. But backlogs don't need to be quantifiable to exist. You can just keep it in your mind and if you forget something then you forget.
