I've being playing games now for around 22 years, my life is pretty sad, but my love for games never left. It's one of the last few things still bringing me joy.

I'm a zoomer and I've been on Steam since 2011. Which is weird because I could have sworn I made an account in like 2008 to play Portal, but it might have been my brother's.

It does sound like initial reaction time and snap shots might have been more useful in CS and later, though.
Getting that initial shot accurately and swiftly become more important than consistently having great aim.

Tribesfags at least have some credibility regarding aim for their shitty series which rightfully died, landing disc shots on dudes flying at 200km/h from hundreds of meters away (even though such a thing is extraordinarily rare and most shots are when one guy is right up another's ass in pursuit and he shoots the ground so splash gets him, once again relying on shit that doesn't require you to aim too well).

CS is the worst FPS on the planet and it only persists through sheer brute force by valve and third world potato players, but it at least requires you to aim AT your opponent to land a fucking hit instead of merely in their general vicinity.

I think my first Steam purchase was The Orange Box. All my friends at the time played their shit on the 360, so most of the stuff I played was on that too with the exceptions of WoW, WC3, C&C Generals, and whatever else I'd bought on CD before high school.

But Commander Keen 4 was one of the first games I can remember playing. Dad got me into games when I was really little. He had some stuff on floppies, and we eventually got an N64 and PS2. Beat OOT using a printed out guide together.

Bought some Half Life christmas pack that came with HL Source, HL2 and Episode 1 and got sucked into steam. I remember bumping my graphics up in HL2 Deathmatch to medium, upping my resolution to 1920x1080 and being AMAZED at this crisp new game I was playing, probably in silky smooth 20fps
