Original has better peaks, but depending on your preference for QTEs and certain sequences, bigger lows. Remake is more consistent across the board overall, but doesn't reach those same peaks. There is no inherently better game since they're so different despite their structure that they don't compare all that evenly.
Probably the worst knock against Remake is that you have to buy Separate Ways for what amounts to the "full" experience.

The original is good. The remake is good. They are similar but different games with their own strengths and weaknesses.

The remake existing doesn't make the original not exist or even be impossible to buy, in fact you can still get the original digitally on every single storefront, not to mention physical copies. Probably because despite the action focus, it basically just evolves the 2R formula, and thus keeps the survival horror design interwoven with the action since you're constantly scrounging for resources. Not like the original game was pleasant about management on Professional, but if one has to scale a game to its hardest difficulty to make an example, that's going too far anyway.

"Worst Resident Evil Remake" is factually incorrect. The Resident Evil 3 remake holds that title and it's not even close.

I liked the RE4 remake and it improved on the original for me, because I hate tank controls and excessive amounts of QTEs. One thing I dislike about all of the remakes though is adaptive difficulty, I feel it's a blight on the series.

Original RE4 is still one of the best games ever made and a timeless classic that will still be played 20 years from now. The remake is quite derivative and generic, it's well put together, it's good even but at the end of the day it's a modern game with smoothed out edges that doesn't stand out or do anything special. What reason will there be to play RE4 Remake when RE6 Remake comes out and gameplay conventions change, graphics improve further making RE4R look dated and Capcom brings back shameless fanservice?
