The Disneyification of Mario is now complete. Nintendo's legacy characters have been flanderized into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse versions of their former selves. Instead of introducing new members to the cast, they're just remixing the ones that already exist. This is worse than the Mario Mandate because it means there's no chance for the series to have real stakes or even make threatening characters. Young Pauline is cute in theory, but her existence in this game alone means that now Mario is basically a tertiary character in his own series. And guess what? The same thing happened to Mickey Mouse, because Disney removed all trace of personality from him until he was just a recognizable, marketable shape.
The sad part is, most people don't understand why any of this is bad, because they don't care about the essence of Mario and view all the games as silly harmless fun where nothing matters. You can see this in how even the most diehard Mario fans could not care less about the series' canon, going as far as to suggest Mario never had any sort of story or important worldbuilding.
