I prefer playing the originals on PS1. Gex 3 is the best with only a few stinker levels but tons of great ones especially in the last world. My favorite levels are Gangster TV and Fairy Tales TV. The former has a great setting and music but the latter has top notch platforming.

Some folks had save bugs on certain systems, but the game still has manual saves + cool stuff like autosaving, though I wouldn't expect you to be smart enough to know that. Sounds like YOU hit a glitch, not a “downgrade.” It can easily be patched out. Just be patient.
