Anyone else really kinda mad that the switch will outsell the playstation 2? Like I'm no fan of modern sony but I feel like the ps2 at least represents a different era of gaming. One where consoles identities were shaped around their libraries moreso than their hardware. One where strategic partnerships were often times were more important than first party titles. One where having lax standards for your third party associates could actually foster in an age of free expression. It just feels like the switch was a hardware gimmick mostly full of corporate greed and safe bet software from nintendo along with all the other crap from modernity while the ps2 represents a simpler time and honestly the peak of gaming even if it wasn't particularly your favorite console from that period.

Im not mad, its deserved.
First off ps2 numbers are bullshit.
Second, the ps2 was sold for over a fucking decade (12 years) the switch is only at 8 years.
3rd, a lot of the ps2 sales were just because of the dvd player so they barely count as console sales. Back then the ps2 was the best deal for a dvd player, I knew a lot of people that had a ps2 just for watching movies on it.
4th, a lot of the games you só fondly remeber of the era are nostalgia tinted and most if not all arent even exclusives

Yeah. It represents when a DVD player took over the market and Dreamcast, being the most innovative and advanced platform, was dunked on so hard but Sony marketing and retailer blackmail that Sega collapsed.

There were barely any online games. Xbox had way more with xbox live not to mention how they really fleshed that out with the 360. Also there is nothing wrong with creating the casual audience. You forget that casuals played gta, god or war, sly cooper, spongebob, gran turismo, kingdom hearts, socom, resident evil, shadow of the colossus, a lot of games we'd consider real games today.
