Dunno but I want it to happen again. The stories after Shadow the Hedgehog didn't scratch that itch for me. 06 had potential but it was a fucking mess of a plot.

1). It was Maekawa's first Sonic game he was put on as a writer and 2). they probably wanted to do something that appealed to slightly older audiences than before.

It's funny because 10 to 15 years ago everyone was saying the Adventure games sucked and the classic trilogy + CD were the only "good" Sonic games

It was just following trends at the time. Progress with DNA and the human genome project influenced Shadow's creation, the need for perfection. The biolizard was probably influenced by Jurassic Park, the ARK falling influenced by disaster movies. Hell, the whole game feels like a cheesy summer action movie.
