Why donโ€™t they just fucking loc-tite the hinge plate screws god damnit. The amount of floppy screens Iโ€™ve fixed at work is insane, literally almost every corporate laptop that hits our department needs to have the hinges tightened, I donโ€™t understand how it is such a prevalent problem in 2025

As with all laptops, open the screen by the middle and this wont happen. Literally all laptops have a tiny rubber handle at the middle indicating you should open it there. Opening it by the sides stresses the hinges and causes them to snap eventually.
Maybe dont be stupid

>be me
>the only pc literate guy in my friend group
>for the past 10 years, I've seen all my friends shit on gayming laptops and still at the end of the day buying one
>I sat down with every single one of them, talked about budget and specs for a desktop, and at the last moment, they come up with a bullshit excuse to buy a laptop
>"I will save money by not buying a monitor" said the guy who spent 1.5k Euros on a laptop with a 1050 gpu
>"It's easier when I will change apartment" said the guy who hasn't moved for the past 10 years
>"it's really portable around the house" said the guy who can't move the laptop from his cooling pad and external keyboard
>you are exaggerating about the temperature and maintenance issues" said the guy whose laptop thermal throttles after 2 matches of LoL or 30 minutes of Rocket League, and has to clean it and reapply thermal paste every 2 months
At this point I gave up and told them I won't bother with their shitboxes. Helping a friend is one thing, being used for unpaid labour to fix their mistakes after warning them not to do them is another. Especially after I saw them how they treat them.

One time I was at this girl's house and her friend had an Alienware he was using on his lap. My immediate thought was how dangerous it is for prostate health. Shit you not, that same night she started talking to him about how someone sucked his dick at a party and said his testicle was enormous and that he should really get it checked out. Fast forward like not even a month and he was diagnosed with stage 4 testicular cancer and had to get both removed. He's still alive and I see him around sometimes, always fucked with my head though.

If that's the case you'd probably be fine with a decent CPU and its integrated graphics. I had a laptop a few years ago for university that had a 1050 in it and even that was messing with my battery life so I can't imagine how much more demanding the newer more power-hungry hardware is.

Oh look, you faggots are still spreading around outdated information from like 2009. Laptops are pretty decent gaming machines. I bought a LOQ 15 and it's been a satisfactory gaming machine for many months now. Good 6 core processor, 8gb vram RTX, 32 gigs of ram. It's not some top of the line shit but it's a solid upgrade from my old craptop and I've been able to play a lot of games at 100+ fps high settings. It's also built pretty solid and doesn't feel like cheap plastic.

Non-business laptops are comically flimsy even if you do everything right.
The keyboard caps start coming off, the bezel around the monitor start falling off, etc etc.
Granted modern business laptops already sacrifice durability for slim meme these days.

This.
My PC before I fully upgraded this year was all stock from 2014 minus the GPU which I changed in 2018 and it lasted me until I was pretty much forced to buy a new one.
Now that I have a modern motherboard I can swap out components as and when I need to as opposed to dropping probably over a thousand dollars on a new laptop every few years.

I think people here haven't actually used the mid tier msi laptops
>cooling, throttling and low power
Loads of copper and the exhaust out the back instead of into your lap. Full 175w available for the m series gpu instead of a pathetic 85w you see on the vast majority of lesser 'tops. Will only throttle when playing the shittiest AAA UE5 slop no one wants to play anyway
>battery life
I can switch between discrete graphics while plugged and integrated when on a plane or something
>plugged in kills the battery
The switch 2 stopping charging at 90% when plugged is nothing new. Laptops have had this option for decades.
>performance
Outclasses my brothers ps5 when I play games with him while visiting.
>build quality
These msi laptops are extremely well built- at vector tier or above. Below you get flimsy.
>you don't actually travel and game
But I do, whether that is business trips, or trips to my brothers to hang out.
Fuck all the others. They all fucking suck and fuck something important up: be it hinges, exhaust, available wattage, keyboard layout, port location or the million other things that can make a gaming laptop shitty. There are good gaming games laptops out there, but the average is still a piece of shit and you should still have a desktop for home gaming.

Bought my first laptop last year as I can't take my desktop setup with me on a plane when switching countries every month. I really miss my 27" screens, and the inbuild keyboard isn't as nice as my cherry, but performance wise I am impressed.
Asus G17, 16 core Ryzen 7000, 32gb ram and a 4070. Thermals are good enough to not throttle when I put it in jetengine-noise mode. Build quality is solid, cleaning is easy as well.

I hate HATE not being able to replace anything except maybe the keyboard if it decides to shit itself, but that's the only real negative for me. If you don't need the mobility it's still a retarded choice of course.

No anon, the hinge simply degraded over time.

The Gameboy Advance SP had a solid metal pin and thicker plastic around its hinge, practically indestructible outside of waiting several decades. The DS on the other hand uses very thin plastic clips on its hinges. They were insanely fragile and have been known to weaken severely with age.

Laptop is heavily bottlenecked by heat.
Unless the laptop manufacturers manage to defy the laws of physics, your laptop will degrade fast. Especially the newer laptops where DEI enforces everyone to stop using lead based solder. Which means your laptop will literally fall apart from the low temperature solder.

That said, these were ones built last year and of course the only place reporting all this is India, and combined with the extreme heat of the place, the low IQ of the inhabitants and their penchant for living in squalor I have no trouble believing it was just an India thing. The point of the thread is to make people upset. Someone makes a retarded claim in the hope people will argue with him. For example now the tard deliberately compares a laptop to a desktop without even mentioning people buy these because they need the mobility. Then of course pretends these are useless unleess they run the most demanding games at the highest settings. Finally of course assumes everyone has an entry level laptop for gaming.
When someone bites he strokes his cock because this is his only joy in life. See also: every hardware thread.

I've bought 2 used GPUs and have been fine. Imo as long as you use a trusted site like eBay instead of fagbook marketplace or craigslist and you know what to look out for like the sellers feedback rating or if they accept returns you should be ok. There are tons of easy to spot red flags. Also just ask the nigga as much questions as possible before buying to give yourself ammo if you need to get eBay support involved

I used to agree with that unconditionally because I keep all my shit in great condition, but I've tried pretty hard to keep my work laptop in good condition even on trips to job sites and somehow that fucker has cracks in the casing, a small amount of the keyboard buttons are getting fucked, and the screen panel gets funky once in a blue moon (probably just going to get worse over time). Laptops, even a decently expensive one like mine, a T series Thinkpad have poor durability and I can't blame people too much when it comes to laptops.

Niggers with cracked smartphone screens though, that's how you can tell someone is a slob.

Intel throttles at 100C. Get good. I would know. My thermal paste had gone completely dry and I didn't change it for years.

I have an HP omen and have been using HP omens for several years. only real issues, beyond the systems getting outdated, are that they got rid of removable batteries which is gay because the cells swell up, and the cases are always garbage which leads to hinge issues or like my current set up needing an external keyboard since a bunch of keys stopped working
