It's a runaway success. I haven't been playing any JRPG's for quite some time because they are bland and simply lost their way/spirit. They are soulless corporate products, not great experiences.

Clair Obscur has strong game mechanics, great story, excellent animation, art direction and a superb soundtrack. They also proved going your own way and great execution brings great success, even as an unknown studio. Others will learn from it and hopefully will try to match it. If they manage to to do that, we will get more good/great games.

E33 is a pretty good example of lightning in the bottle. Way too many crazy coincidences had to come together in order for this game to blow up like it did. You're being overly naive if you think its success model is easily replicable, and there's a non-negligible chance Sandfall's next title won't deliver on the same scale.

It is absolutely crazy to think a journalist could ever have a different opinion than you.
It doesn't matter how many of my friends, and coworkers, tell me to play this game. It has been recommended to me 50 times. I totally don't care, because it does not look like something I want to play. I didn't care for Persona 5. I absolutely do not care about some "gut wrenching story". I dropped Stellar Blade as soon as it tried to be sad and shit.
I'd rather play Dwarf Fortress or Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time, or actual FUN games.
