If you didn't beat the original western release, in which enemies deal and tank more damage, no autoaim and Jill using ink ribbons to save, you didn't beat the game. The gog and rebirth versions are based on the jap version which is so easy you might as well just watch someone else play it. Also you need to get best ending for both characters for it count as beating the game.

Wrong, you both get radio contacted by Claire about getting Sherry out of there when shes infected, but also meet her on the train, and even meet her in the police department when she runs away from you.

Claire never meets Ada, true, but Ada is also presumed dead from either the fall, or being injured from the Tyrant.

While in RE1 only one chopper comes to help you escape before the mansion blows up.

This was a missed opportunity the RE1 Remake could have fixed but it didn't.

The only positive Chris has is that he can take more hits than Jill. All the rest is in Jill's favor.

And people misunderstand why Jill means "Easy". It's not just because you get more powerful weapons way earlier or she has more inventory space, but because Barry will save her in quite a few places as well. You can play it in a way so Barry never saves you, but you have to go way out of the intended path for that to happen.

Some trivia, but did you know that there are alternate cutscenes if you don't get Richard's radio before going to the Courtyard? If you don't get it by then, Rebecca will come and give Chris the radio, saying Brad is trying to contact them.

Hunters only really take a few Shotgun blasts to obliterate, and are easy enough to deal with that you can honestly get away with magdumping your Handgun into, even when they're deliberately placed in tight hallways. Any issues with this strategy is also alleviated by the fact that you're coming back from the Guardhouse when you encounter Hunters, and you can honestly just shoot everything in there and still come back with 100+ HG Rounds and dozens of Shotgun Shells--and from that point on, you get enough from the Basement to easily top up whatever you spend.

Honestly, RE1 in general is so easy that the differences are negligible, and it only got easier from there. I don't see how people make this one of their gamer purity tests, even when accounting for the various niche versions of RE that do things like make Hunters just a smidge more resilient

I played both to hell and back and then chipped my PS1 and used a little spring to hold the button down in the disk tray so the game was held in suspended animation and the disc could be swapped, so I could edit the game and play through custom playthroughs as Wesker, Barry and Rebecca

It's one of the OG versions greatest virtues. It's really fun to do reruns. Whenever I go back and play it, I always find myself doing 3 or 4 runs, just because once you relearn the layout, it's just so fun and brisk to run through it in an hour and a half.
