>>713077297 (OP)>Every single console/handheld since the Xbox 360 would ban you from online play if you mod it or run pirated games. How is this a shock to so many people?the people (some of them, at least) getting banned were using dumps of their own original copies with accurate and unique certs, theoretically indistinguishable from the originals, except that nintendo eventually found other ways to distinguish between real and fake cartridges.
this is obviously not the intended use of the MIG switch, it's to pirate games, but a niche of stupid redditors cropped up who were using it with games they owned simply to avoid switching cartridges. the read speed was much worse than real cartridges and this slight half-convenience was not worth a ban risk, but you can't cure redditors of their stupidity.
people are up in arms over these bans, those against "legitimate" MIG switch users, because they didn't actually pirate anything or harm nintendo, they simply bypassed security to do banal things, like if you hacked a wii and only used it to bypass region lock.
combined with that you can use CFW and game mods online on the switch 1 and generally not get banned unless you pirate or cheat, people got the idea that anything goes as long as you don't pirate. that idea was wrong, clearly, but the people who trusted in it got $450 paperweights.with no use until a similar product is made for pirating switch 2 games.
