The only element that needs to be improved is the battery, and I'm sure they'll put out a better battery model in a year or two. The LCD is much higher quality than the switch 1 so OLED isn't that important. And power wise it's hit the point of diminishing returns where more power wont matter at all to most consumers. Most people do not give a shit if the game is 2k or 4k or 60 vs 120 fps.

They have about 5 years of ports that skipped the switch 1 to catch up on and once they're exhausted the penny will drop that very few games from 2025 and beyond are showing up on the system.

Why would you rate the switch 2 right now? It literally has only one of the 70-90 exclusive games it's going to get and even that game is nowhere near complete, likely to get multiple DLC packs that will likely double the game's content and improve many features.

I bought a 10" tablet with an AMOLED screen for $100. This is the standard now. A wide range of colors and true black is the standard. Even my 7 year old phone has a much better screen than the switch 2.

OLED is not "much better" than a high quality HDR LCD. In fact, LCD still has some advantages in this case because you wont find an OLED screen with VRR, HDR and 120fps. This doesn't exist right now, and when it does come around it's gonna be extremely expensive for a while. This is nothing like the switch 1 which launched with an extremely low quality 60 fps non HDR 720p LCD. While an OLED model will be a nice upgrade, it wont feel necessary to most consumers, mainly just enthusiasts.

Uh, no. Switch 2 is 3tflops and can do DLSS VERY aggressively. Fast Racing is doing like 540p to 4k DLSS. The only games that may struggle to run on switch 2 are CPU limited games, of which there are like 3 so far across the entire industry. Even then, porting them is still totally doable it just requires more optimization and perhaps decreasing particle effects and amount of NPCs on screen.

I have an OLED steam deck. On paper, yes OLED can be a major advantage, but that's on paper. The issue is that almost no games are designed for an OLED screen, because most people don't have an OLED TV. You need true blacks and very high contrast to really appreciate the OLED screen, but developers don't bother making that kind of content because they know all the users on their LCD screens wont even see it. The only game where I noticed a big difference was Hollow Knight, specifically in the plant area, where there is a huge contrast between the true black background and the bright green plants. Aside from that I'll just notice little things here and there, but nothing that really alters the experience. Maybe some day when OLED becomes more mainstream in TVs we will see more OLED focused content but right now it isn't a big deal. LCD is the standard and that's what developers are working for.

DLSS allows them to pull off pretty much anything but full raytracing graphics wise. We've hit the point of diminishing returns there. DLSS does not help with the CPU though and that's where the switch 2 could struggle. But most games do not push the CPU. Games that do are generally open world city games with a ton of NPCs like GTA. I don't think Death Stranding 2 would be a problem, but I'm not deeply familiar with the game and don't care to look into it, since it's just a dumb walking simulator for autists.

While it is true that several of the switch 2 games are releasing on the switch 1, the gap is so massive that I don't see why anyone would want the switch 1 version. For example, Metroid prime 4 is 900p on the switch 1 but 4k on the switch 2, and on switch 2 it has lighting and texture improvements as well as support for mouse controls. Pokemon is even more extreme where the switch 1 version is basically unplayable, horrible graphics, gonna be full of lag and bugs while the switch 2 version looks like a very solid ps3 game.

Launch year lineup is always really weak. The switch 2 is way better than the switch 1. ARMS and Splatoon 2 were both mediocre, 1-2 switch was utter trash, Mario Kart 8 was a port of a several years old game. It had two major new games, Odyssey and BotW and Odyssey was fun for one playthrough but doesn't really hold up. I'd much rather have Mario Kart World, DKB and Metroid Prime 4.

Yes, GTA 6 is one of the like 3 games that will struggle to run on the switch 2. It is absolutely still doable to port it, they would mainly have to cut the number of NPCs walking/driving around. I mean obviously they could port it since Cyberpunk is running fine. But it's one of a few games that they couldn't just drop the resolution with DLSS and call it a day.

I do think we will see GTA 6 on switch 2, just not immediately. Especially because they still haven't ported GTA V to a Nintendo console and they're not gonna leave that money on the table.

I gurarantee you if the donkey kong game was mainline 3D mario instead nobody would be complaining about Switch 2's launch year

It obviously is. They fixed the biggest issue being the moons not doing shit so no reason to collect them. They level up your character and give you new moves in DK. I don't expect DKB to be some massive gamechanger though because I think it was probably made by a smaller offshoot team while the next 3D Mario was in development.

The switch 2 has a shockingly powerful GPU for a handheld console but the CPU is very weak. The switch is a handheld, anon. It's competing with phones, not consoles. And old games are designed for CRTs, and a significant amount of the switch 2s library will once again just be a rom collection of games that look and run worse on the switch than they do on a 30 year old console somehow. If you're curious about that, averaging out the parts the Switch 2 is roughly 40% of a PS5. But unoptimized third party games could perform significantly worse than that while Nintendo's own first party games could perform even better. Cyberpunk appears to be pretty decently optimized and that's where it appears to be landing.
