>>713083093Not trying to engage with the racebait of this post, but I've always found this Dahl quote to be bullshit.
Like, let's come back to reality for a moment and recall that physical attractive is almost entirely that, physical.
You can do a fair bit of things to complement your features or alter them - change your clothes, style your hair, and work out. Yes, you can smile or frown.
But aside from smiling from how you feel or whatever, how you feel inside has fucking nothing to do with whether people think you're hot or ugly.
People find some of the worst and most depraved serial killers hot.
And separately, people can often find things like performative self loathing attractive, because they want to "fix him" or show a person what they're worth etc. they think angst is cute etc.
I've always felt like this quote is just beating down on ugly people even harder. People reject you because of your genetics? That's your fault, your fucked up jaw actually just reflects your rotten inner spirit!
It's like what Aldous Huxley said about how having a justification to commit bad behavior is the "most delicious of psychological treats." We're already wired as humans to treat ugly people worse, probably due to some evolution & dysgenics shit. What this quote does is just absolve you from rising above your base instincts and treating people well regardless of how their body grew, by saying you find them ugly not due to those genetic instincts, but because they did it to themselves by thinking negatively.
And by the way, no fucking shit an ugly person who gets treated shittily will develop more negative thoughts!
