>>713107645 I think another major issue is that western styles largely didn't embrace "mature" stories on a wide scale. So people see anime as a style you can use to tell an adult story in, but western animation is only for children's cartoons. Outside of the latest trend of insipid ironic maturity with over use of swearing and violence.
I'm also not saying that any of that is true, western animation has a lot of examples of adult stories, but it is VIEWED as being for children. Which effects what type of animation style someone will pick to tell a story.
