I remember bugging my parents for DK on the SNES and it hit my little brain like crack. I played, I loved it, I grew up with the franchise and yet the redesign does not bother me at all. I even think 99% of remasters (including Nintendo ones) should be thrown into a fucking chasm, and I can see the differences here, I just can't work up any outrage over it.

I think what helps it most of all is Nintendo gave a clear reason for why they changed DK's facial structure around (Rare's DK design has problems with facial expressivity unless they do full AWOOOOGA eye-pop face and head morphs) and the length of time it's been since DK has had a design overhaul, literally not SINCE the Rare design beyond getting more detailed fur and maybe a fabric material on his tie

They legit do, Nintendo doesn't mishandle its IPs, at worst they just let them rot like F-Zero or Star Fox. Those ones in particular I don't think have a very compelling reason for why Nintendo lets them rot (purely because they hate doing "iterative games" ever since the GBA and they don't believe they'll ever be able to top F-Zero GX or Star Fox 64, which would make more sense if they were still available for regular sale in some way) but they do actually have a reason, compared to Sony and Microsoft sitting on IPs for decades and doing nothing with them for *no* reason.
