>Play literally any fighting game ever made
>Using a PS4 controller
>Check button prompts / controls
>Buttons are displayed as "A, B, C" etc.
Why do the retards who make games in this genre expect me to use a Sega Genesis controller? I have never understood this retarded design decision. You'd think the button prompts would reflect the controller I'm using, but I guess that's too much to ask for?

It's even worse when the controls are labelled like HP, LP, HK, LK etc

Yeah I don't get this shit. You always see fighting game players bitching about how dead their genre is, yet nobody ever thinks "hey maybe we should actually make our genre intuitive to pick up and learn for new players".

In case you aren't baiting, fighting games are designed with either arcade layout or button remapping in mind. With 4 buttons fighters, A/B/C usually corresponds to low/medium/heavy, with D being a more special button.
It ultimately makes everything much easier to talk about, for instance if a game is multiplatform, if I type "236A", everyone familiar with the genre understands it means quarter circle forward + light

>everyone familiar with the genre understands it
And there lies the issue. Incase you didn't realize, NEW PLAYERS DO NOT KNOW THESE THINGS. When they're looking at the controls, people want to see buttons for the device they're using. It's not that difficult to understand, just show me real button inputs.

It wouldn't make the game more accessible in the long-term, it in fact have the opposite effect
Fightans are centered about community and can't be played alone, having a common language between platforms makes things a lot easier; and if you played any other game then you would have those expectations.
It also helps a lot for game modes like combo trials, which shows you the same input to try regardless of if you play on switch or ps5
What game are you struggling with anon?

What games? If it’s something old it probably got ported straight from an arcade.

Do you think learning the alphabet came naturally to you as a kid? Or learning to walk? You may have forgotten but learning how to do things takes effort. Be grateful they turned it into ABC and not SF lingo like short, medium, fierce, etc.
