The handheld market is saturated and they won't be able to compete with Microsoft's Play Anywhere program... Those might sell to new adopters in the ecosystem but I think people are legitimately sticking with MKW and their old updated games until DK comes out and then they'll probably go back to MKW and their old games until MP4 comes out.

Part of the issue is that early adopters at this price point will be either hardcore gamers or hardcore Nintendo fanboys and the former have played all these ports and the latter aren't really interested in them because they aren't first party Nintendo games. The casuals that make up the bulk of the third party sales haven't shown up yet.

Third parties sell like shit on the Switch 2 because they have the opposite appeal from Switch 1.
The original Switch was a console everyone already had, so of course they'd want to buy additional games for it. It was a big platform third parties could use to reach new players.
Switch 2 is a brand new platform, it's more expensive and has more expensive games, AND the first party games are there. So it's the worst possible platform for third parties. Well, except a platform that doesn't sell at all.

The key cards thing is a meme. Only redditors that line up cases next to their funko pops care if games are digital, physical sales are almost nothing compared to digital now.
