>>713136349Moving somewhere else will be fine, but between the site taking money from a literal crypto-crowdfunder (geyser-fund), using Nostr for part of it (a decent protocol for social networking not unlike ActivityPub but with some differences, with some issues depending on exactly what parts of Nostr they use and how ) but the problem is when it comes to actually dealing with hosting costs at least, as well as just the temptation to allow other forms of monetization. They're already integrating crypto as pic related says.
Your pic there is the kind of thing EVERY "Web3 crypto linked" "alternative, censorship free" site claims.
>Oh you'll never HAVE to use it see its justand then they start finding ways to do so. Well, you don't HAVE to use it but we only allow people to be tipped with crypto. Oh you don't have to use it but we only pay out rewards in crypto. Oh you don't have to use it, but we only allow you to buy certain account stuff with crypto etc. The LBRY token and the Odysee site was one of the least shitty implementations in that they at least actually did what they said, but the site basically spent a lot of time trying to get people to transfer their content from YouTube etc...and did so to increase the value of the LBRY token for existing holders, which left a lot of people ( who weren't schizos who were banned from YT/Twiitch etc) holding the bag down the line. There was also LOKI and the Session messenger which started to require its token/crypto to pay for the messenger, or proper "addresses/usernames' etc. This shit has been done before.
Especially if it becomes popular and if they don't use some truly open tech like BitTorrent, the biggest costs are the hosting. Maybe the guy hosting the site / running the Nostr instance for the accounts and posts etc.. can do it for fun, but if it takes off at some point they're going to have to deal with the massive file hosting costs and that's not detailed in their document
