Played the first four chapters (ended with whatever one had the cat that had the death fog). It's really blunt, brainless 'YOU SHOULD BE SCARED OF THIS'-type haunted house horror with some annoying puzzles. No real subtlety to anything, but maybe it's just designed for tweens. Feels like the devs got way too big for their britches with the third one when you go to the dumb underground orphanage place that's a big, bloated mess.

Unironically scary and great. Also Yarnaby is best boy.

The series has a real identity problem where it wants to both be super dark and mature while also taking place in a Willy Wonka factory with gameplay defined by illogical slappy hands. Really feels like the team is insecure and has no artistic direction.

The 'Aperture Science Toy Factory with infinite depth and size' thing was just too much for them to manage.

Exactly what happened. I remember they minted nfts and signed a movie deal within just a few months of the first chapter coming out. They were more focused on the brand and exploiting it than the actual game that their fanbase cared about.

The only guess I've seen is Poppy herself, but I don't know how that would make any sense for the timeline. But nothing else really makes sense either, since Boxy Boo was the first successful Bigger Body so you can't really introduce some random new character made before him.

What went wrong with 4? The obvious answer would be they crammed too much into it but I don't feel like the Chapter could've worked if they took out anything.

Huggy Wuggy (and derivatives) was a pretty good mix of "this would definitely be a marketable toy" and "this shit scary af". The rest are either too monstrous or not that scary at all. I'll give Miss Delight a pass though since she's not really a marketable toy in the way most of the rest are.

Everything about the Huggy chase was so incredibly well done.

They really know how to treat him, he has all the best scenes in my opinion. The nightmare section has the best writing in the entire game and the chase itself is masterfully done. And the ending to 4 was a great payoff to all the waiting and Kissy teases. One of my bigger fears for 5 is how they handle him, because he needs to be gotten right both in his encounters and story reveals.

Same. He's probably my favorite horror mascot, and hopefully he'll still be done well in the next chapter but I am kinda scared as well because what if he wasn't.

Either they'll keep doing scripted sequences, just upping the production values now that SotM showed everyone how it's really done, or they could try making him a more conventional threat like the Nemesis.

The only thing I know for sure is that Huggy's return is likely going to give us the lore behind the person turned into him... and probably the person who got turned into Kissy Missy too.

Also, love how the majority of Chapter 1 and the end of Chapter 4 has whittled the cast back to just us and Huggy Wuggy due to Poppy abandoning us, Kissy's fate currently being uncertain, and most of the other villainous monsters being either dead or preoccupied with something else.

So my personal theory/headcanon is that Huggy is Rich. When we last saw him, Rich was the Head of Shipping and was just being informed by a worker under him of mysterious disappearances. That means Ludwig is out of the picture and 1006 has been created, so Rich can't be The Prototype. The company already has a record of killing or experimenting on anyone who speaks out against them, and considering everything he's said about them and what he's now heard it's not unreasonable to assume he was taken out to be experimented on too. The more headcanon side of this is that his wife immediately starts to harass Playtime about her husband's disappearance, and is thus experimented on too, becoming Kissy.
