If the game forcing you to fight the Titan didn't make it clear, the game is not going to punish you for fighting when it's going to give you no choice in some battles. Especially when the first four chapters together are already twice as long as Undertale, Toby can't rely on people replaying the entire game from scratch just because they decided to fight a few times. The only major difference is going to be the weird route.
So far every chapter has ended with the kill count being reset, and the player level increasing to what it would be if you fought everything, even if you've been a complete pacifist, so the only thing that you're losing is town recruits.

I'm mad at how fun fighting is and how recuits being LOST prevents them from respawning
ironically enough, despite their incredible variety, ACTs don't give me the same dopamine hit as pressing the attack button at the perfect time and seeing a bigger number on screen

He's right about it being a statue that turned into a darkner though. Gerson's right statue is missing when you backtrack after the fight.
Also it's immune to attacks because you miss during the fight, Ralsei just catches it off guard from behind.

We didn't fuck up by getting the Shadow Mantle, did we?

I just finished them, was busy with life, and I can't believe how many secret stuff is in the game, but here's my take.
At fist, I was stressed by missing stuff and whatever since undertale kind of tracked everything, deltarune does as well but the design philosophy seems linear, where the extra things doesn't massively affect the experience (aside for choosing snowgrave so far).

My intention will be sparing everything, since it's fun, and getting all the dark crystals which seems like that will be all that's necessary for the "best" ending, doesn't seem like missing characters or not sparing some of them would greatly affect the path in the grand scheme of things (It would be an exponential pain in the ass to develop and write)

I really liked tenna so I was glad he was alive but I gave him away anyways so I guess what I mean is the main path doesn't seem too affected? It seems that branched out for a while and then ended as opposed to it ending sooner.

Honestly it was a bit of a pain replaying the whole thing so I'm just so thankful these are separated in chapters and many skip options.

I think toby understands that maybe suffering to get an ending isn't that much fun in the long run.
