Severance: Blade of Darkness
Basically a mishmash of Sword & Sorcery and Tolkien stuff into a somewhat clunky but very atmospheric and difficult action game. People say it's like a proto-souls but you'll feel that it's a classic PC game aside from some surface level similarities.
It has 3 playable male characters that are all pretty MANLY but it also has an Amazonian who's easymode due to her attack range and movement speed, but she's the least satisfying to play so who cares.

I'd say its actually not clunky, but it does take some relearning. Its compared to dark souls a lot because both have pretense to "strategic" combat. Dark Souls does it using input lag, unintuitive animations, and generally long wind up times. Severance does it a different, and I think superior way. Its the opposite of rollslop. Your dodges are quick and reliable, but you're not trying to just iframe through them or use them as a ghetto sprint, you use them for positioning. Your parries aren't used to fish for damage multipliers, you use those for positioning (on the time axis).

You're kind of right. I did have some trouble with the controls from time to time though, but I was using the new port and switching from controller to keyboard from time to time.
I also did encounter some annoying bugs like my health potion refusing to be drunk and never disappearing from my inventory as a result, preventing me from picking my other potions or items. Though it seems to be kind of rare from what I looked up.

Probably something that needs heavy experimentation. I heard that some people (at least 2 different teams) are making some kind of spiritual successors to it but I'm not sure what they're called.
Main issue is that it's hard to recapture the vibe of the game, it definitely feels like a product of the early 2000s fantasy craze.
Something like a control/polishing mod would be nice if it existed, and I recall that the game's files under the "lib" folder including some control stuff seems to be made up of just Python files so modding it should be kind of easy in theory.
