Been replaying the Arkham games and man do they hold up. How did they manage to screw up everything they've done since then, instead of doing a Batman Beyond game or something?

The start of the rot was already in City.

Now Kevin's dead and it just won't be the same.

They don't and I am incredibly happy to say that the Arkham franchise has not only DIED, but it has left no legacy on video games as of 2025.

>replaying
Is that even possible? Don't you just have to keep pressing the same button while changing direction to win against most enemies? That's what I remember from playing Asylum back in the day, though, apart from the gimmick fights.

I just want a honest answer. No need to be an asshole about it. Maybe they changed the combat dynamic in City

I replayed them and they don't hold up at all. Awful non-gameplay.

Their hubris was their downfall like all devs that get big, they think theyre too big to failed and forget what got them to that point.

The deepest these games is with Arkham Knight which turns into a full blown TPS

Why is HL2 there?
Anonymous No.713141981 [Report] >>713142134

>The odd one out, sure, as FPSes are still the only genre western devs can deliver on, but HL2 represents a regression of the amazing combat system introduced by Duke Nukem 3D and its engine (which subpar games like Blood would use, and great ones like Shadow Warrior would take advantage of). The scripted sequences in HL1 were impressive for the time because there was nothing like them, truly, but by HL2, only a retard would be impressed by these 20 minute long cutscenes you can't skip.

From my pasta. A lot of Valve drones are still in denial about the Half Life story going anywhere when Valve cut the best entry (Opposing Force) from canon.

Rocksteady had dozens of great ideas. It’s just WB choose the worst one possible. Fuck the TMNT game would’ve been peak

Rocksteady would've been pre-mogged if they had tried.

Is that even in dispute though? No one replays HL2, they just play it once and then praise GabeN for the epic cutscenes and then never play it again.

Those are combat challenges, a great inclusion to the game.

I remember getting to know a guy with lots of connections in the gaming industry. I think he knew the CDPR big brass at the time and got to play an early build of CP before we even got a second trailer.
Anyway, we were talking about Arkham Knight. He was saying how one of the core tenets at Ubisoft around that time was the 3Cs: character, control and camera. All three of these elements need to be top notch to have a game that feels great to play. And Arkham Knight was the game where Ubisoft realised they weren't top of the pile anymore.
I look at games now and I feel like the standard for how it feels to navigate and interact in a game world has definitely dropped.

??? And? They're supposed to be the hardest content in the game but they're not, as there is no hard content in the game.

Are you fucking stupid? Rocksteady literally invented free flow combat which would be copied by every fucking hack like the retards who make those Sony Spiderman games.

I don't play Spider-Pigshit and nobody I know has ever thought those games had good combat. (But out of nostalgia, they pretend the Arkham games do)

Just the idea that a BB game could have been made during the golden era of the Arkham franchise rips my heart apart.
Basically cyberpunk Batman video game.
Now there is no way anything like this could be made with the same level of potential magic.

It would've probably been made by Montreal and mogged Rocksteady, just like Origins

But we're talking about a timeline where Batman Beyond was made and would've probably been Arkham Knight 2.0 like how Origins was City (but better)

The spiderman combat isn't as good at Arkham's because they copied the broad strokes without understanding what made it work

It's a mix of key talent leaving the studio, ballooning budgets and WB being a terrible publisher.

Assassin's Creed changed their combat system to be more like Arkham.
Sleeping Dogs, Shadow of Mordor/War, Mad Max, Spider-man all use Bamham combat.

Crap

Like the game but the combat is crap

>Shadow of Mordor/War

Crap, also WB

>Mad Max

Semi not crap because the combat captures the feel of being a marauding thug - also WB

>Spider-man

Crap
