I've never done this normally I either jump from the edge of one platform to another or fly all the way to the end
The whole puzzle looks like it was made to be exploited and only idiots try to complete it the "intended" way

I think by far the funniest part is the puzzle doesnt teleport you back, some dev was like

The game absolutely kills you if you arent using that on tiles immediately nearby, making them useless for actually doing the trial. They also patched clicking on the gem itself and having your character just autorun there. Between the patches for cheese and >>713146760 they really do just want you to do a strict pathing section with point-and-click Bubsy 3D controls.

Well, I just posted a video of someone doing the trial. They did it without Fly, which is even harder because the distance is shorter.
