It's not that bad. It just pales in comparison to the fucktillion other 3D action games that came out around the same period. If it weren't for being Castlevania I doubt it'd be remembered at all now. Same for Curse.

I know it doesn't exactly count as it's own game. But some of my best gaming times have been in HoD, especially when playing with Japanese players. They were always so polite and fun to play with. I really miss those days.

I'd say 3. Never really cared for SotN, I think it's just too easy and I don't feel like the RPG mechanics add that much to the Metroid formula. Hell, sometimes the RPG mechanics can make the game worse (Circle of the Moon).

How come Castlevania never sold that great overall? The series should be popular. Its an action series about killing many types of monsters. If Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter are a success what's Castlevania's excuse? And I mean BEFORE it became necessary for games to be 3D.

Seems like even in the 2D era the series wasn't a big deal. And once 3D became standard it never kept up.

DoS isn't bad at all on it's own but compared to pretty much every other Igavania I enjoyed it the least. At least until I got to Julius mode. But the base game is way too grindy for all the coolest shit and Soma moves, attacks, and jumps slower than AoS. Its becomes really noticeable when you play them back to back. Also this is barely a complaint but the sound design is lackluster. Punches, slashes, stabs, explosions, fire, etc. all sound muffled and weak as fuck.

Rondo of Blood is probably the greatest game ever made, SOTN and SCIV are close. PoR, Castlevania 3, Castlevania X68000 and Bloodlines are amazing games too.

If you enter a room with a cat it will start repeatedly meowing like an annoying bitch and that doesn't make me want to rescue the cat it makes me want to KILL it.
