I admire that game a lot. It was incredibly ambitious. The tone and atmosphere are unmatched. It has possibly Hitoshi Sakimoto's greatest music.... But fuck me it's a mess.
I kinda love it but i wouldn't ever want to play it again.
The constant menus and the constant buffing/debuffing interrupting the pace ruined it from being a 10. That and the fact that the games weapon system is a nightmare and impossible to get your head around without a guide.

It's not that big of a deal. If you want to be super-optimal then sure, you'll need a guide. But if you just wing it you'll still do fine — at least I was fine in my first playthrough. If anything I wish that was a way to switch between several weapon (or whole gear presets) quickly. Because I'd end up with 2-3 weapons good against different enemy types, and opening menu to swap them every time was tiring.
