>>713153205>Only a small amount of profitThe purpose of a business is to maximize profit, that priority, maximizing profitabilty for your shareholders, is enshrined into law. You are legally obligated to set aside your morals to maximize profit.
Any system designed to maximize profit will do so at the expense of those in the system. A system which maximizes worker wages, where workers operate within worker cooperatives, is the only system where businesses will not maximize profit at the expense of humanity.
Stardew valley, and most other games, do not understand this fundamental aspect of the system, they critique big corporations but do not recognize why they are evil. The assumption is that it's just some evil guy's fault, some Morris running the business, and once you deal with that one evil business or oust that one evil guy, everything is saved! No changes, no introspection on a societal level, occurs. It was just one bad apple, not a basket riddled with holes.
While it's always appreciated when a game acknowledges that corporations are evil, it's quite tiring that none seems to bother asking what can be done to stop that evil taking root in the first place. The fact that someone like Morris could ever enter a position of power, that such a position of power even existed, was an abhorrent crime in and of itself.
