But none of these are really what we were envisioning.
The key thing is having hundreds of AI units.
So there's always a huge battle going on. The "commander" player can try to control the flow of the battle by giving orders to the AI troops, dropping in supplies, vehicles, and more troops, etc., but it'd also have to be a solid FPS shooter. So heroics from an infantry player would also turn the tide of a battle.
And then the idea would be that you could swap these roles at any time, and infantry players could communicate and coordinate with the commander player.
The spirit of the conversation my friend and I were having were we were trying to imagine how cool videogames were going to be 10 years in the future, so it's bitter sweet to remember.
