Crown of the Ivory King
>Same recycled Shulva/Brume Tower soldiers but ice colored everywhere in the DLC
>2 bosses, 1 of which is a worse AotA Guardian but presented 3 times.
>Actual number of true new movesets for common enemies is basically 2, the new rats and the enemies creating giant ice protrusions to use as weapons
>The ice gimmick is just a way to pad the length arbitrarily
>Definetly not beating the Korean MMO look allegations
This is probably the worst DLC for Dark Souls 2. The others weren't great but this was extra boring.

Overall very weak game.

That's more than fair. It's rare to see most discriminate/categorize games based on director, it seems to always be the publisher.

I guess it shows how young video games still are, this doesn't happen as often in film where viewers can distinguish between the director and the production company (think Exorcist 1 and 2 as a random example, one is Friedkin greatness, one is whatever)

Different ideas permeated the design of these games and it's strange top tie them together just because of a number relation. We should be able to distinguish marketing intent from artistic intent.

That being said, ds2 blows. The animations don't feel right. The lightning storm castle stage was excellent though. It reminds me more of a 3d castlevania style game than dark souls if anything

Is it just me that hates how enemy poise works in DS3? It's about a 70-30 chance that an attack will either stunlock an enemy or he'll start an attack that makes him immune to stagger and that you have to dodge/block in a split second. It feels like garbage especially against fast spastic enemies with few openings.
Anonymous No.713154834 >>713154959

You have to read the enemy attack to see if the enemy will get stunned
Anonymous No.713154959 >>713155049

Except they start an attack fresh out of a stagger. That's what I said about a split-second reaction. Previous games would either give more generous windows or stagger enemies on blocked attacks. DS3 feels like it only has random R1 stagger bullshit.

I dont understand the mind of a 3baby, why do they eternally seethe at ds2 while glazing ds1 so hard when ds1 much closer to ds2 gameplay wise.

Definitely feel that. I still don't fully understand how enemy poise works after all this time. I just get the feeling "ah, probably shouldn't go in now" or "one more hit here may work but it might not, best not to go for it".

Maybe that's what they were going for, idk. I even watched that illusory wall dude's half hour long youtube vid on the poise and still waver when I'm in game about it.

I think it's supposed to be confusing to prevent abuse (like how poise was so abusable in ds1)

Elden ring hit a good middle ground between ds1 and ds3 with poise being exploitable and confusing imo

This guy in particular has a rapier poke that's immune to stagger and has about a quarter second windup. Anything that's not a backstab is a risk. Maybe it's my fault for sticking with mail breaker instead of going for a big stick, but it's still annoying.

The truth is that DS3trannies dont like DS1 they are just scared of being called secondaries that started with DS3, they dont even know what made DS1 so great, they pretend to like the bosses like OnS and Artorias

Dark Souls knows how to make bosses that are unique to fight even within the constraints of its game design.
Stuff like cutting Garoyle tails to stagger them, stunning Iron Golem, bosses that will flee when attacking like Sif, an invisible boss or one that can cover the ground in lava and cause explosions or is backed by some extra enemies.
Dark Souls 2 lacks that spark so every boss fight is the same

Bullshit. No shot you were around when ds2 came out. I don't even disagree with your point, but stop slinging shit like that man
Prove me wrong and tell me about the binocs on launch

But yeah, ds1 and ds2 are similar (DeS too) in that it is slower speed), but ds1 and ds3 are very similar in many more ways. The rpg aspects, engine, focus on scenery and environment and critically, the very interesting spacing ties these games very much together. Almost like they were directed by the same guy.

If you're scared of starting with ds3, you're a retard. You should be scared of starting with demon souls and still posting on 4chan all these years later, like me.

You never played ds2
>You can cut off the last giants arm before he uses it as a sword
>Pursuer changing his moveset once he grabs you
>Looking glass knight summons enemy players when online
>Lost sinner can fuck with the lock on mechanic if you dont light up the arena beforehand
>The Spider boss fights you before the actual arena in ng+
>Covetus demon stripping you naked with his grab, and having pots in the arena which you can shoot to stun him
>Fume knight instantly going into the second phase when wearing a particular item
>If you kill the ivory king while having friendly ice knights still alive they will kneel
In contrast ds3 just looks like pure slop with no soul put into it

Royal Rat Authority. Now let's list gimmick stuff in DS2:
>whatever Executioner's Chariot is doing
>NPC adds including human invaders: Looking Glass Knight
>rising water level: Flexile Sentry
>swarm boss that doesn't suck like DotD: Royal Rat Vanguard
>adds scared away by fire: Freja
>one boss resurecting another: Throne Watcher & Defender
>summoned adds: Elana
>big free-for-all fight before the boss proper: Burnt Ivory King

No shit. In was replying to the dude who didn't understand poise and was trying to make him understand how it works. Maybe I coddled that type of reader too far

DS telgraphs heavily when attacks are coming and when poise will occur. It odes this through feedback and animations

I will always dock sekiro a point for putting the kanji as a telegraph...

Ok sure, it worked and normies are down with actual challenging and rewarding games. Awesome!

But then Miyazaki's immediate next game keeps the jump concept and removes the kanji symbol... Very few take advantage of the jump now and default to the roll and complain that the game is too "cheap"...

It's a shitshow man, it seems that the average gamer (even those who are capable of posting on 4chan) don't understand simple ass shit without big ass markers indicating what's going to happen...

That being said, these miyazaki games are fun af for those of us who like to learn game systems and figure out how to do cool shit

Bringing up ER's jump is stupid, because
it's the same problem as continued existence of backsteps and parries as """alternate""" defensive options. The problem that doesn't exist for Sekiro's singular moveset. A few enemies have their designated super obvious JUMP NOW OR EAT SHIT attacks, but thanks to wacky hitboxes you can't know if jump works against some "regular" attacks.
The simplest way to "take advantage" of jumping is dual wielding ultra greatswords and skipping longass attack startup with jump attacks. Trying to divine whether you jumped at the wrong moment or maybe enemy's tracking is too good is no fun. That is why jumping is no good defensively.
