This can backfire tho, I got HK after seeing countless times people praising it as the best metroidvania ever only to hate it and realize how much it killed the genre, since then I learned to search for some negative reviews too to check potential flaws that could ruin a game for me, bonus points if it's a negative review for a metroidvania that mentions how much better HK is, that's how I decided on buying Afterimage and that was a great purchase

I played hollow knight ages ago and thought it was great, heard good things about afterimage and dropped it after 12 hours because of how utterly mediocre it was. what did you even like about it? The environments were nice aesthetically but that's really all i can give it.

if you don't thoroughly explore you only get to experience about half the game. I think there's more optional bosses than not, and of course there's badges and such to find.
