What's going to happen to the game industry when a single dude can write a 10k page design document and generate singlehandedly a Skyrim or World of Warcraft sized game ready for beta testing?

or it could be an honor system that the code wasn't AI

The funniest thing about AI is you guys think we're going to benefit from it. We're heading towards the Cyberpunnk 2077 timeline.

Unironically you'll probably see more appeal towards indie games that advertise themselves as not using AI due to the fact that people will want the added experience of knowing someone was hand made, kinda how you put up with shitty IKEA furniture when you're younger but as you get older you actually prefer better quality less mass produced furniture
In terms of AAA it'll be an AI wasteland but people who pay for AAA pay for anything already so not much will change

AI will only serve to resource cull the 99%. It's the epitome of capitalism where capital doesn't need to go to the right places, because it's already in the hands of a controlling class of people.

Even if one person could generate an entire game, I still think game companies will exist. The reason is that even if you AI gen a WoW sized game, it still needs to be checked, to see if there's any problems, and to see if it's actually worth playing. No different to me doing quality control on 4chan.

There are already people whose entire job is prompting right now, all that's needed is better llms.
I was actually thinking the other day that in the short term writers will take a pretty big hit from ai but if the method of interaction to get the desired output remains the same as now then long term many writers can remain employed just as professional prompters.

The market becomes oversaturated with "idea guy" games and nobody will play them. You'd be retarded to think only 1 person will do this and not the entire world doing the same thing 1 million times over.

People will still play shoddily made multiplayer games like league and fortnite. Realistically if it reaches that point and everyone can make their dream a game you then have the situation of people have no reason to play bobโ€™s game over joeโ€™s. Everyone is going to flock to what everyone else is playing, even if itโ€™s bad, because theres social interest.

That simply won't happen. If anything, overuse of le AI is going to tank a bunch of projects and waste huge amounts of investment. Well it's doing that already.

Game studios will still exist because everything scales exponentially. The games made by a large team with a 9-figure budget will be more advanced than the games made by one guy in his room with an AI model, because studios will benefit massively from AI as well. By the time you can AI generate a game with Skyrimโ€™s graphics and gameplay, AAA games will look and play so much better than Skyrim that theyโ€™ll still be the better option.

Hardware that can provide enough resources for a (currently existing) LLM to be able to handle a document of that size (keep in mind that the resource costs increase exponentionally *per word* if not sentence, at the moment) most definitely will not be accessible to a "single dude" in the foreseeable future. So your proposed scenario is still literal science fiction.

It'll be like in the late 90's / early 2000's when there was a sense of elitism among animators who used pencils versus people who animated on a computer. Who won in the end on that one?

I think what the Jew at take two said will happen. Basically games that are 'human made' will be like a niche luxury kind of thing - like collectibles or limited edition kind of thing.

It's painfully obvious none of you do any sort of actual programming. If you did you would know that LLMs even in combination with Agents are not the amazing technology they are heralded to be.

In fact, if LLMs did make you 10x more productive, you were just a shit dev to begin with.
