Minecraft is the sandbox game, Terraria is the game with a sandbox.
Terraria is done, finished. While they still update there is nothin past endgame. You can fly around limitless and dig through everything in milliseconds, every weapon turned into a big ass ranged weapon. There is not much room left for powercreep.

There is a lot they could do for a sequel mainly increasing animation fidelity and combat system

They've mentioned wanting to actually make a Terraria 2 a few years back, and having ideas for it that cant work in Terraria's current archaic engine. But I doubt you'll see anything come of that for quite some time assuming that they actually do follow through with actually making a new game instead of updating Terraria till the end of time. One of the schizo theories is that the reason 1.4.5 is taking so long despite being a "small" update is because a decent chunk of relogic is focusing on Terraria 2.

It's not nearly as hard in Terraria as in Minecraft.
Just add sloped roofs using a hammer, windows and lots of cozy cluttered furniture and maybe some extra clutter on the fascade.

TERRARIA MUST GROW, IT MUST EVOLVE. IT MUST GO 3D. Even if it stays pixelated like it's DOOM or if it goes fully 3d like in the various artworks, it has become clear that Terraria's gameplay has outgrown the constraints of 2D even if it was great.

Re-Logic MUST move the sequel of Terraria into 3D for it to have additional longevity. Imagine how fun and cool it could look especially in the department of world generation, exploration, and building. Minecraft mods will simply not do, the game is too different in its needs for it to be a Minecraft clone.
