and that can be avoided by just not buying the 90 and 80s

I myself have a 5090 and my sister I gave her my 3090, and my brother has my old 1060 6gb.
I helped him setup some Minecraft mods/shaders and was surprised he was running it at like 70-90fps smoothly, the 1060 was truly built to last a while.

seems like Nvidia was just built different back then during the 10-series cards

Yes & No. Most recent releases suck, so you're not really missing much if you delay upgrading. You can get a pretty good value on a 5700x3d, and a amd card these days if you have something newer you want to play.
