That's what makes Runescape kino, though. You grinding in a large world full of other grinders and getting to show off the fruits of your labor to others is peak idle gaming. The quests having steep level requirements and the difficulty of travel also really helped the atmosphere.

The immersion was unparalleled back in the early/mid 2000s. Not even WoW compared. Runescapes and BOTS!! were my jam until I found Dungeon Fighter Online.
