No there are big game releases where the reception is generally positive. The complaints about MKW is pretty substantial in comparison.

I'm not even sure if its that much of a minority. An entire lobby of people all voting random track is an entire lobby of people who don't like intermissions. There was a comment chain on one of those MKWtubers videos asking people's thoughts on the game and the one comment saying "actually think this kinda sucks" had more likes any other of the other comments.

The only thing I really hate is the lack of 3rd lap hype. All the intermission tracks have random music and I miss the DUH NUHNUH DUH NUH DUHDUHDA super fast tempo version of the course music. Rainbow Road was really boring for this, it was just like 6 different gentle rainbow road melodies

i played it day one, got all 50cc cups and havent touched it since. once i saw that grand prix was ruined by the stupid intermissions i never wanted to try it again. Knock out tour is fun but IMPOSSIBLE. I banged my head against it in 100cc trying to get 3 stars and can't even get first place on the first checkpoint reliably, its a shit show. I have heard if you unironically play it like your a 5 year old that sucks at video games, the CPU becomes retarded and you can finally win.
