Just played through Undertale for the first time. It wasn't that amazing of a game so I'm surprised at how successful it was. Was it the meta aspects that made the game popular?

fags, troons and 12 year olds is the answer.

I also just played through for the first time and thought it was amazing. Did you get the true pacifist ending?

Going in blind helps alot and I'm sure the insane overhype didn't help either. It's a cheap game that provides a fun little adventure.

Honestly yeah that was the game's big hook

most indie games didn't have interesting meta elements and Undertale is still a good game under all that

What did Toriel do that's worse than experimenting on your own child? I'm willing to bet Carol is going to just turn out to be a really strict mother.

Ceroba's intention, if I'm not wrong, was to save her child by murdering the cowboy kid, who's name I forgot (if he even had a name).
I'd say as far as things go, Ceroba is pretty bad but her intentions were good and is willing to do a lot to save her own kid, she even goes all out and fights during a Justice route.

Toriel literally cancelled her plans at the church, didn't warn Kris, it started to rain and didn't even care where he child was.
She was so bad that even Susie, who thought Toriel was the goat (get it) had her opinion of her completely shattered.
If my child was out during the rain I would either know where they are or I'd be searching for them, no matter how "safe" the neighbor is: what if he fell into the lake or some accident happened?

Ceroba was a good wife but bad mother. Her fault was being TOO loyal to her husband, to the point of overestimating his scientific capabilities even when he himself told her not to do that.
Toriel just went and fucking abandoned her husband when he needed her the most, and then she would rather let six kids die than talk with him like adult people.

Clover and you're missing the point that she was trying to save her kid because of something that was her fault to begin with.
>Toriel literally cancelled her plans at the church, didn't warn Kris, it started to rain and didn't even care where he child was.
Ceroba experimented on her own child.

We don't know that yet.

It's a shitty meme "game" for normies.
The morale of the game is that self-defense is le bad and if you indulge into protectig your own life using violence even once trough the game, you get the bad ending.
Gameplay and graphics are bad, the setting is lame and the characters are abhorrently bad.

>Ceroba experimented on her own child.
To be fair, it wasn't malice, it was MASSIVE lapse of judgement. Kanako herself asked her to give her a jab, Ceroba should've acted like an adult instead of letting her get swayed by a kid. That's why we consider her retarded rather than evil.

Kris is making literal deals with the equivalent of the devil and Toriel is obvious to it.
Ceroba made a mistake, a huge one, but actively tries to fix things.
>Ceroba experimented on her own child.
Okay and Toriel isn't aware her child is possessed by us and we can not only abuse Kris but start to abuse Noelle as well.
Weird route happens also because Toriel is actively not involved with Kris at all, can you imagine if your kid was possessed by a 4channer and you didn't even know about it?
>We don't know that yet.

It would be fine if it was like a survival pocket knife, because fuck it it's an actual too... but a kitchen knife? You're asking for someone to get hurt.

I had to carry an actual boxcutter knife back when I was in highschool, and not for the reason you'd think either I took an optional course in technical drawing and they were REALLY anal about how we sharpen our pencils, but big-ass kitchen knife is a bit too much.

>Toriel just went and fucking abandoned her husband when he needed her the most
I think her abandoning her duties as queen is worse. She was so mad at her husband that she would rather camp out in the ruins forever and play house instead of helping her citizens. You can still hate the guy, but there is also still a community of monsters that look up to you for leadership and guidance.

What is this referring to? I don't think anyone takes the ritual he did with Catti seriously. If its Carol then no one in the town seems to think she's actually evil.
>Okay and Toriel isn't aware her child is possessed by us
No one but Noelle seems to have noticed this and that's only when Noelle is directly exposed to our more extreme actions in snowgrave.

Arguably just looking at the store page spoils that there is going to be meta and subversion.
The tag line of "no one has to die" is in direct contrast with the tutorial fakeout that flowey does that wouldn't be as impactful if you were truly playing the game blind, like what was possible for maybe 3 days after the game was initially released if you somehow avoided all discussion on the game but still bought the game on the promise of it being good.

The fucking Knight?
The guy/girl that literally summons a titan?
The guy/girl that almost kidnapped Toriel?
The guy/girl that had to be stopped by a police officer instead of Toriel since she was doing fuckall?

HE KEEPS US
IN A FUCKING BIRDCAGE
Is she literally NEVER checking on Kris?
Furthermore, Kris had a fucking bloodstain at the edge of his bed, why the fuck is Susie the one cleaning that up and not Toriel?
Obviously other people wouldn't necessarily know about us possessing Kris but you'd think someone that lives with you day and night would notice if you suddenly pulled a fucking heart (shaped object) of your cavity and put it into a birdcage.

Did you get all three main endings?

I don't think Undertale truly gets elevated beyond homaging older games until the other two endings. And it's also not as good if you know anything about it in advance. If you do the pacifist ending on your first time because you heard about it from others, the game loses a lot of its impact since the game is designed with the expectation that the player will kill the bosses that try to kill you the first time around, and then it makes you regret it with some really good scenes.

>She certainly doesn't look thrilled.
It could very easily be passed off as "more Kris family being weird awkwardness I'm outta here". We may get some explicit signs that her opinion of Toriel has tanked but if the usual trend of the writing continues this won't be acknowledged.
>The fucking Knight?
Oh right that. How is Toriel supposed to know about that when even the people involved in the dark world stuff with Kris hasn't figured that out yet? Even we're just deducing that from all the (granted massive) hints we've been given.
>HE KEEPS US
>IN A FUCKING BIRDCAGE
Is she literally NEVER checking on Kris?
We see her checking on Kris. It's he doesn't remove us from himself all that often. Guess it is weird why she never asks about the birdcage but Kris may have an excuse.

Then it could be that the reason you didn't like the game that much is that you are heartless, in which case I recommend the evil route which has the best gameplay.

Timing. When it came out, there wasn't much else like it. The music also greatly added to its appeal. Its battle system was also genuinely unique for the time.
