Therefore it's funny to laugh at.
>>713179965That pic just reminds me of that one Kino's Journey episode with the robot family, frankly.
>>713179495Younger zoomers tend to be actually kinda based. They are skeptics in most things after being subject to indoctrination their whole lives.
Its older zoomers that are the biggest retards to ever walk the earth. They chose to be faggots of their own volition and they will literally believe anything you tell them and are all woketards
>>713180741>they will literally believe anything you tell them and are all woketardsNot me
>>713179965You can hardly see that background while playing, anyway. I don't remember if it shows up anywhere else but WDW, but the only time you could possibly see it is when you're at the top of the town and also on the edge of the map. And if you're there, you're watching your platforming, not the stupid background.
I think the people who make these videos have too much free time

Kids are dumb, I am no exception
>>713180741Nah you've got it backwards. Older zoomers can remember a time before the indoctrination was this bad, so they at least have a chance to resist it. Younger zoomers however don't know anything but the indoctrination and grooming they're subjected to in public schools. They're completely hopeless. I've never seen a based or skeptical young zoomer.
>>713179768there was always "horror content aimed at children" through nursery rhymes and myths of monsters that would drag you away at night if you acted like a little shit
>>713177619Thereโs still mystery afoot in the world they are just in denial about it. Occult infrastructure surrounds us all.
As a kid, I used to bounce between Spyro 1 and 2 a lot. I loved both games, but 1 would often unsettle me. There was just something about being completely alone and isolated in the world with everything simply trying to kill you. The few friendly encounters you have is just these statues that say a couple of things to you and then vanish forever. It made kid me believe they were actually hologram pads that would play old recordings of dragons that once were. You could run up to the pad to replay the recording. Spyro was all alone, and everything wanted him dead. Still the best Spyro game.
This has to be some kind of psychological issue where these fucking zoomers grew up in a world where many technological limitations have already been solved, so when they see them they get scared because it challenges their "perfect" world view.
>>713186067This. Ask a zoomer how their cellphone works and they wonโt be able to tell you.

Non-meme answer, I used to sneak past the border between human and orc land in Gothic 1 when I was a kid.
I was retarded back then and didn't level up nor did I have any worthwhile armor or weapon, so I was basically completely helpless should I stumble across a group of orcs.
For me it was basically the first survival horror experience. The fact that the orc land was a creepy forest didn't help.

>>713177186 (OP)It is a shame this happened, same with liminal spaces in a way. Their 2spoopy shit ruined something nice that was there. Mario 64 does have an interesting empty bizzare feel to it that gives a sense of discovery. It would be nice for more games to explore this feeling because discovery and mystery are fun. Alas though, now any game attempting that will just end up some skibidi horror, or way too overly empty. It almost makes me want to make a game myself to try to show how I think it should be done.

>>713191609I'm a zoomer and remember playing some Lego games when younger that had this feeling. Especially stuff like the marvel one where you could glitch out of the map and go through an empty city area out of bounds. It never scared me though and I don't really understand where the trend of retards acting like it is terrifying comes from. Maybe it is a creativity thing and more creative people instead see what could be done in the environment or the beauty of it on its own. A lot of liminal spaces do make for pretty good art backgrounds. The other thing I've never understood is the "places you've seen before" I've never once felt nostalgic looking at those places because I've never seen them before. Yet you see many dumb children acting like they remember a surreal depiction of a mall in the 90s. The only memory I have close to these things is one of a strangely big party room off the side of one of those indoor inflatable playgrounds or something. It doesn't cause me concern though.
Zoomfags have replaced atmosphere with "creepy". Anything that isn't a brightly lit open space is immediately creepy to them.
Liminal space. Source maps. These things have the potential to be creepy yes, and Source engine gives a distinct atmosphere to environments, but it isn't inherently creepy or frightening.
They have no appreciation for atmosphere, tone, composition and engaging with the audience's subconscious with suggestion and diegetic sound. It'll become a lost art and we'll get the most generic games imaginable.
Consider the Witcher 1, absolute slav jank piece of shit to play, but it has absolutely magnificent atmosphere. It can make or break a game
>>713192301>I've never once felt nostalgic looking at those places because I've never seen them beforeNot a zoomer but I actually have, kinda. Or more like it's closer to recognizing a few familiar details that do remind me of places I've seen (maybe not even in real life, more like on TV because I was born in a depressing shithole) with a mix of "I wish this was my childhood" kind of light jealousy.

>>713207603You don't have to imagine anything. You're a kid, a YOUNG kid, not like you boomer manchildren who watched spongebob in their 20s or some shit, and the episode just ended, and now that the episode has ended there is just this... thing. This random fucking image of some yellow flowers, and over it is this weird fucking song with these odd ukulele notes with non-standard tuning.
It just sits there, for like 5 minutes, just playing the song.
It isn't building up to anything, the episode is over, so why is the screen there? It's late, the funnies are over, the episode is done, all you have is this screen. It WAS fucking creepy.

>>713208694https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiUzDb3lF18
i was scared of playing the n64 for a while because it jumpscared me with a high pitched sound when i bumped into it while playing a game and it spat out a bunch of numbers on the screen
>>713203431No one of an age past 16 was scared of creepypastas at the time, even the older people who wrote or interacted with them just found it interesting of funny. Only actual zoomoids got scared and grew up with them as horror.
>>713208694I dunno about you, but back when i was watching Spongebob, the credits did not last for five whole minutes. The credits would end and then there would be some commercials. Thats it.
>>713177186 (OP)Why are zoomers such fucking pussies? Literally terrified of Bing Bing Wahoo OOOF? Absolutely pathetic
>>713200042Then you will absolutely loathe Subnautica.

>>713210941It did have some startling crashes. I used to actually have nightmares about mario 64 going crazy as a kid.
>>713211730It felt like 5 minutes, I don't know the exact time. I eventually began to immediately skip whenever the outro started because I felt very deeply that if I listened to the song for too long I would get cursed or die.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYdGB9nO2fE
>>713211971That's millennials who are scared of Mario. Zoomers, the rare few times we feel fear, is only due to deeply psychological and nuanced horror
>>713177186 (OP)Why is it a picture of Pokey overlaid? And where even is that room in the castle? I don't think that's in Mario 64 at all. Why isn't it a picture of the eel or the piano instead? You know stuff that might actually unnerve a young kid playing.
>>713188051>Now imagine you're in a dilapidated mallWhat do the Spongebob Squarepants end credits have to do with a dilapidated mall?
>>713212095Are you talking about the DVD credits? Because i never bothered to watch those: I would either switch DVDs or turn off the TV to do something else. I honestly did not know that they had a five minute theme song loop on the DVDs.
>>713212669No it was just the normal credits. I assume different stations played them differently.
>>713186596>>713188051Seeing people being scared of fucking SpongeBob of all things reminded me of how people were scared of the Nickelodeon fish opener that played on VHS tapes and DVDs. I remember years ago looking on some wiki with company logos and had scare factors attached to them, and I swear to fuck that gif related was rated nightmare, the highest of them all. And to top all that off, people have been writing creepypastas about this fucking thing. Some people are beyond stupid.
>>713213014I dunno, either i don't remember, or i never actually saw those blank credits. Oh well, I guess I'll never truly know what it feels like.
>>713188051>>713212431It's really bizarre.
>Man, this thing is really spooky>What? No it isn't>Well, if it was completely removed from the original context and you saw it in some extremely contrived scenario that would already put you on edge in itself and/or it was edited and distorted like adding more reverb and lowering the quality to make it more spooky... it would be spooky!Yeah, I guess if you were to take Mario 64 and say you'll kill me if I die in-game then it would be terrifying but it doesn't actually have anything to do with the game itself but a ridiculous fucking scenario you made up.
>>713213186Anon you're literally a complete retard if you think people are scared of just a fish randomly, you're a drooling 5 IQ dunning-Kruger incapable of understanding that people can have different experiences attached to those images and that the contexts under which they are presented can give them a completely different meaning.
>>713213613Yeah dumbass because that's exactly why it's scary, the context it's attached to and how that context influences you psychologically. Putting it in an empty mall is a good comparison to its actual context which then TRIES to explain it to braindead millennials and evidently fails. The Spongebob episode ending late at night and leaving you with nothing but a pointless outro song with some yellow flowers is similar to the feeling of being left alone in an empty mall. You're somewhere you're not supposed to be.
>>713213776>>713214110Rambling isn't going to make "Whoa like imagine you're in a creepy location alone trapped in the dark, and....this music plays!" any less stupid. Anything played in a creepy location alone lost in the dark would seem spooky, because it's the location that's threatening, not the music.
>>713213776NTA, but i think i get your point: I remember getting unnerved whenever opening a closed door because I found my fathers corpse that way. Sometimes mundane things can remind you of the terrible things you went through.

I thought this a little spooky the first time I saw it, it gave me a swooping sensation I only recall one other time, that being Clanker's Cavern in Banjo-Kazooie, the first time you enter. But I think a giant underwater maw moving much faster than you could swim is a reasonable thing to seem scary to a kid. In any case it's momentary. Nothing to dwell on for years exaggerating how scary it was.

>>713179965Ever since I was a kid, I did have that strange and uncomfortable feeling playing that level simply because of how eerie and mysterious it is. There are so many questions we had, but none of them are explained, like the submerged city and the purpose of that small town you swim to. The way Wet-Dry World is designed makes you feel trapped. You get that feeling that this was the home for millions of people, only for them to....disappear. Not to mention that when you swim to the abandoned town, you cannot go back. Combine all of that with the haunting music and you get a level that makes you feel lonely, isolated and trapped in another world with so many things that you questioned, but never answered, making the eerie and abandoned world that you are in even more haunting and mysterious. This is a world where nothing is explained, nothing makes sense and you are trapped there with creatures that can harm you. This is a world where nobody wants to be in because of everything that I just said. That is my explanation on why Wet-Dry World gives me that negative emotional aura. But despite all that, this is still one of my favorite levels from Super Mario 64.

>>713177186 (OP)When I was a little kid I actually did find Shade Abbey unsettling, though it's intentional.
You enter the abbey and find the chapel courtyard is a mess. Most of the graves have been dug up, the priest's quarters are in ruins, and non-hostile monsters wander the buildings next to normal people. All the people have strange dialogue that's either stilted and unnatural, or bewildered and confused as if they'd just been transported there with magic.
And when you enter the chapel, every single NPC in the area will immediately follow you into the building. No dialogue changes, no indication that they are doing this until the way out is blocked.

Real talk though, the animations that played whenever your character moved in the out of bound areas bring up so many unnerving questions when you take a few minutes to think about it (3:08, 5:06, 6:48). Why does Spongebob look like he's being dragged by some unknown force? Why does Patrick lean back as if his legs have minds of their own and are taking him somewhere he doesn't want to go? Generational warfare is a retarded psyop.
When I was in elementary school, I had a high-functioning autistic friend. We played Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the PS1. It had one of those secret rooms in it where a moving suit of armor came after you and you had to fight it, and he freaked out, tossed the controller so hard it broke, covered his ears and just wailed and cried until the system was turned off.
He later explained that the music scared him.
